is it possible to do a nissan conversion to a sr20det under the hood in a 1g talon? i love dsm body style but also a fan of nissan engines. could anyone give me some info. i cant find any on it. or know anyone who has done it?

oh yes, its definately possible. You should probably go out and take a close look at your car though. There is a reason why there is only a tiny number of rwd talons. You need a lot of money, skill and time.

There are just a few things to consider, like where the steering rack is and where the front crossmember sits. they sit right where the transmission and engine neeed to. Also the dsm doesnt have a big whole in the floorboard/firewall for the rwd transmission. All of the brake lines and fuel lines etc are in the way as well. The engine would have to be set up really high. and it is a tight squeeze from the firewall to the radiator support.

Edit, fwd to awd is a good question. i was a assuming rwd. but since you want an sr20 fwd, thats just dumb. you could have a monster 4g63 sitting in there with a little amount of work. Sell your car and buy a nissan sentra/bluebird whatever, or just get a dsm with a 4g63.

Because they do have SR20DET's that come out of FWD cars. and if you got one and a FWD tranny that would be probably the easiest way to do it. making your talon RWD will be more difficult

yes want to keep it fwd. what do u think about the conversion? how hard would it be to do the swap and keep it fwd

Definately possible. just find a front clip with a FWD sr20 and tranny. then wap it all over. wiring harness, ECU, all of it.... you will have to fab up your own brackets adn figure out some axles. but i think you could do it if you have the skill. i would try it.

i have the 4g63 n/t engine but alot of my nissan friends told me i should try it. im not sure but wich engine has more power the 4g63t or the sr20det? wich is easier to mod and wich has more potential?

Dsm's have a cheaper aftermarket but how many sr20det's are dropped in dsm's? I myself would rather have a rwd sr20 setup.

If you don't have the engine or trans yet, check junkyards for G20's. Probably where you'll get the best deal.

If you do the swap make sure you post up about it!

As far as more power, as long as your going to put money into performance why does it matter? They are both proven engines.

TRUE.

First I want you to find me an SR20DET front clip on the cheap. You won't find it. America only has maybe two or three cars that ever got an sr motor and none of them were turbo. Also the turbo sr motor uses a shim over bucket system to adjust valve clearance. Not great for big power and high rpm power, a known weak spot for the SR's. Either get a turbo 4G or turbo the one you already have. There are plenty of parts for the 4G motors that is a none issue.

I agree a 1g sr20 rwd would be pretty epic. I see no reason at all to ever make a front wheel drive car. One nice thing about the sr20 motor is that nearly everything has been done is well documented over at zylvia. They are a different breed of forum over there very funny and they flame everything, that being said they can also be extremely helpful, this forum is nicer. As far as which motor is better and has more potential I have no idea. I used to own an s13 with an sr20 in it, thing was beautiful and fun to drive (as are all RWD cars). I've driven in a twin turbo'd s14 once, that thing spooled and acted like no dsm I have ever seen, but then again you can not knock on the 4g63 because it has proven itself time and time again. The sr20 has a very high rev limit. One thing I would like to see rather then anything else is an Audi inline 5 motor swapped into a 2g GSX. Those are a rock solid motor and in my opinion maybe one of the best made in the past 20 years.

yeah but that's alot of work for no reason. when you can just drop the 4g in it. it's not worth the time you will spend trying to do it man. and I bet you will need to at atleast 3g's just to get it done do to mounting and spacing. If you like them that much get a 240 their cheap shell's man.

You can do anything you want to as long as there is space for the motor to fit. hell that's up to you to do the conversion but i would think making it rwd would be funner. i would suggest picking up a book or two on engine swapping S.A. design makes a good one. I'm planing on doing a 4g63 swap to my 1994 sidekick just trying to find a good trany that i can use that is switchable from two to four wheel drive. The hardest part about mine will be getting the automatic trany i use to read the 4g63 ecu. Just to put in my 2, I would think putting a 4g63 in it would be better use of your time and money. the Sirius 4g63 is one of the best motors out there it was build by Mitsubishi just for a rally race class. one of the best build 4 cylinders out there have 4g63/4g64.

If you have the time and money to do it, go for it. It would def be an interesting convo peice nonetheless. I have thought about doing this swap but instead I am just goin to find a 4g63t, harness and all, and drop it in my car. Best of luck to you if you decide to do this.
