I am putting together a 91 gsx m/t and I'm installing front lower control arms off of a 91 GS auto. I installed energy suspention bushings and went to install them on the car and after I got the drivers side installed I noticed a gap in the rear most bushing. I have heard that all 1G front lower control arms are the same but this just doesn't look right. Here is a picture of what I am looking at.

Tommy, that does look like a bit more gap than I normally see in the control arm to bushing. Have you put the car on the ground yet to see its placement with load on the suspension?

As well, I cross-referenced the 2.0L N/A 4G63 GS Auto models to the FWD/AWD turbo 4G63 5-speed models; same exact part number used for each lower front control arm.

(D20-series --D21A/D22A/D27A)

There are different part numbers listed though for the base model 1.8L eclipse/talon chassis --

Is it possible you took control arms from a 1.8L car? Do you still have your old control arms to check the dimensions against?

The control arms are also different part numbers than the Galant E30 chassis (E33A galant/E38A galant GSX/E39A Galant VR4).

As well, there is a difference in cross members from the 1G FWD to the 1G AWD models. The 1G FWD DSM's (D21A 1.8L non-turbo FWD and D22A non-turbo and turbo 4G63 FWD) and E33A Galant (FWD non-turbo 4G63NA) versions share the same cross member, while the 1G AWD turbo DSM has a different cross member (D27A AWD eclipse/talon/laser shares the same cross member as the Galant GSX E38A and Galant VR4 E39A).

Essentially, you may be running into an issue where the 1.8L control arms are being used and you need to use the 2.0L 4G63 NA or 2.0L 4G63T FWD or AWD front lower control arms.

I know for a fact that they are from a 2.0 turbo GS car and I compared the arms and they were exactly the same, so I scrapped the old ones. I will just continue to install everything, then lower the car down and see what it does when there is weight on them. Thanks for the help.

Ahhh, that would take up the gap. I thought the two flat surfaces should meet and the tapered end would be at the end. I will go turn them around. Thank you.
