I am going to be tapping my gauges to an illumination source. Since my gauges are black faced, I want a constant illumination source that turns on with the ignition, not the lights. If it is near the cig lighter that would be great since Im using it as my constant 12v source for power. If you know where and what color the wires are that would be great!

it is completly safe use like the head light fuse i am not sure if they are all the same but my cars lights wont work if its not running. but ya just wrap like half and inch of wire around one of the legs on the fuse box i think the head light one is 20 not sure but i used it for mine and no problems. down on the driver side and cut a little channel in the cover so it can run out nice.

I would make sure you wrap the wire around the right leg on the fuse or you may be sorry down the road when your gauge wire rubs to a ground and you smoke the wires and anything they are touching just because you accidentally eliminated the fuse in your circuit. Know what I mean?

I would tap the accessory wire from your ignition harness. If you do that it will be a constant on at all times day or night but only when the key is in the ignition cylinder and one click forward or on the run position. Your cig lighter you could tap for power too seeing how that is a constant 12v just make that your cig lighter doesnt have power when the key is out of the ignition cylinder.

If you need to know which wire is the accessory wire for your ignition harness than google search the12volt.com and look for your make and model it'll tell you what color the wire is
