Hello. My name is Eric and i'm new to this DSM car deal. I've been told DSM cars make good cheap daily driver ars which can be easily moddified. I'm very new to anything DSM. I've always loved the GSX eclipse. I'm in college and really want to get some sort of daily driver car. I've doen a few searches and really couldn't find exactly what i was looking for. I know there's no way I could keep a car stock so I think a good daily driver that I could tastefully modify that wont break the bank would be advantageous.

Which DSM models are availible as All wheel drive? I don't liek the idea of movign away from RWD but I think the more responsible driver in me would prefer a AWD car for the St. Louis winters.

Any inputs on which DSm cars you think would be best for me?

It is nice, but I would have to see a 700 RWHP Beemer with a entirely stock setup to believe it. On superstreet a few issues back, the 4g63 was in the top 3 for best engines in the import market today... I would have to check exactly, but I know it was complimented on its engineering and its ability to push over 500 whp on a turbocharged setup with an AWD-train, and it is only a 2.0 liter. No one has it beat, not any B or whatever series from Honda, only the SR 20 DET had it beat, that was it.... I do like yours though, black and yellow, just like a bumble bee..

Hey the reson I said.... ""use the M3 as a nice easy going daily driver, and have fun with the Modded DSM project car!"" ....is because you car is soo nice. Plus you said you dont want to put a ton of miles on it. And if it is your dream car... you dont want to be beating it up with racing.

700 RWHP BIMMER? I never said completely stock. He has a thicker headgasket and ARP head studs, but that's it. It's a e36 328i. Tuned by ICS performance. He drove almost 60,000miles on it with over 500 rwhp and almsot 35,000 miles with 635 rwhp before they went for 700 rwhp. The engine had 215,000 miles or somethign wen it finally bent a rod while pushing it more than 704 rwhp. His name is Ulysses and he lives in connecticut I believe. He's an active member on a bmw based forum. Now he's gonna put in a built 2.8L m52 motor and go for 1000-1100rwhp. e36 M3's with a built motor and ICS tunign have already doen 1025 rwhp and they are aiming for 1100 now. Trust me, these aren't bad motors to work with.

With that being said, i'm actually a little bit excited to know these dsm motors seem to be very capable aswell.

What kind of transmission problems are we talking about here? Driveshaft? differential? Actual tranny?

I love my dsm and id take it anywhere to me the very reliable . Even modded there reliable you just got to realize when your being to hard on it . Any car you buy will need properly maintained for longentivity. I would buy a earlier 92 eclipse or gsx . I would make sure it was built early 92 or even late 91 that way you get the stronger 6 bolt motor and rearend . They are a blast and if you look at them sideways the will make more power. Go for it !!!!!!!!!

Har har, i got 3 bars in walking distance from my apartment anyways.

So i'm looking for somethign in the early 91/92 model eclipse.

What's this 6 bolt change to what that makes them stronger?

ive daily driven mine for 3 years and its been great just minor stuff that every car has go through. What everyone has said i cant agree with more especially about the previous owner portion and getting maintenance done on time. Don't put things off and check it thorougly before you purchase it. If you do those things your car will last a long time and you'll have a lot of fun with it =)

I dd mine. And with that I put over 300 miles a week on it. That with the swap and the tranny that I was told won't last. (put about 20k miles on it since the swap with no tranny issues). So yes they can be daily driven with mods.

St'Louis winters?
Please.... Move to New England. You'll see what winter is all about...
You need to own a 4wd truck as backup to get around when Mother nature dumps on us... When you get an 18 inch snow storm, an awd dsm is not getting through... But my 72 f250 with a 390 and 33 inch tires is smooth sailing...
I'd love to get an AWD though. Just haven't found one at a decent price...
