I don't understand how I would be able to get compressor surge at WOT. Is it because the turbo is too big for my application?I'm running a DBB 57 trim.It seems like it's fluttering around 5k then at around 6.5k .How can I get rid of this? It seems like I started getting more surge once I installed the 3" intake.I had a 2.5 and it didn't do it as much.Should I just put it back on?Maybe go with dual B.O.V.?Please help.

Compressor surge has nothing to do with your BOV.

Basically the turbo is flowing more air than the motor can injest so the air backs up in the intake track and slams into the compressor wheel.

Anything that Improve's VE (cams, SMIM, etc.) should get rid of it, or you could also get a surge ported compressor housing.

I agree with you Tyler, but I am having a hard time believing that a 57trim is out flowing even a stock 4g63...

How sure are you about it being a compressor surge issue? Could this be simply tuning? Do you have a log graph or dyno pull ( something to that affect ) to confirm that it is comp surge?

Every time I have seen a DSM surge it has been with something much bigger and at fairly high boost. The surge gets worse at higher rpm, not in one or two spots. For example, the T76 has been known to surge on the dsm.

I have seen comp surge with a 20g at 25psi on a 9:1 compression 6 bolt. We never found out what was causing it either. It appeared one day on our way to the track and was gone the next.

I have a couple of dyno runs I'll post up tomorrow since I could only get online at work.I'm 100% sure it's compressor surge.

What is smim?

Sheet Metal Intake Manifold.

When I was running my 50 trim with stock cams/IM I could get it to spool so fast it would Surge. Simply turning down the gain on my EBC would slow the spool just enough to get rid of it.

Do you think an electronic boost controller would do the trick?

No... I dont think the electronic boost controller will help if this is compressor surge. I would really like to see the dyno graph.

How much boost are you running when this happens? If you turn down the boost a few psi, does the surge get less or go away?

For some reason It won't let me post it up.I don't know how to get it on here. It's a dynojet log. A .drf file. Can someone help me or guide me on how to post up a log?

I was running about 18 psi.Only got worse as I turned up the boost so I had to open up my MBC all the way, so now it's running off of the wastegate spring.

These 57trim threads are getting old. I wish someone can just sticky my results so everyone can see. Anyways on with the question. Yes the 57trim is giving you compressor surge. No matter what you do with the motor(add cams, shim, etc) will make it go away. Sad reality is your better off buying another turbo unless you can live with the surge and even then your risking breaking the turbo. Your only way of fixing this problem is adding a anti-surge housing to help it out and even then your going to surge if you do a fith gear pull. Heres a link to my 2 threads with the 2 results. Your best bet is to cut your losses sell the turbo and get another one. Here's a picture of the DBB 57trim when i got the custom anti-surge housing for it.
