420A Cold start problem

Hi, so my 98 gs takes awhile to start up when it sits overnight, it cranks for a few secs and then barely starts, almost dies but runs fine after. I changed the fuel filter about 3 months ago, changed the spark plugs recently But when I hold the key in the on position for few secs a couple times and starts almost fine, so im thinking it might be the fuel pump. Any ideas?

Sounds about right, when it's warm and you floor it does it seem like it's normal? Does it hesitate or feel slower? There is also a filter sock on the pumps inlet.

I would check your fuel pressure. If you have a bad fuel pressure regulator it won't retain pressure for a cold start. It all bleeds back to the tank through the return line. You're literally repressurizing the system before it has enough to start it. Had this happen twice on my cars...

It kinda does feel a bit slower but im not sure, i dont floor it too often

Sounds like either a bad fuel pressure regulator or bad injectors. I had this issue on a 1g but unfortunately I swapped both at the same time and the problem disappeared.

So I added some fuel injector cleaner, seems to start better now
