Coilover Sleeves or lowering springs?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Go with eibach or tein springs. The slip over coilover always ride like crap and rattle. If you need height adjustment save up for a Tein Basic coilover kit.

I've tried the coil over sleeve kits in my Honda days:barf: and as Boosted3s said they ride like crap.Plus they can also sometimes adjust height on their own which I found anoyying to keep having to re adjust every time.

Honestly, steer clear from teins with DSM's. Their spring rates suck for our cars. Atleast for the 1g.

Tein has lower spring rates than stock for 1g...

Coilover sleeves are not bad if the CORRECT one is bought, and if you use a GOOD shock with them.

There is a reason that Ground Control/Koni is praised in almost every community.

thats what i thought, i dont really need height adjustable anyway. i just dont know what would be a good set up for my car. i've been looking into the eibach pro and sportline kits pretty heavy but dont know what a good combo with them would be, because stock wouldnt work out to well, would it?

Go for the Koni shocks and then sportline if you want your car slammed, if you just want it lowered and pleasant looking for pro's. Personally I would go for the pro's. I've heard that for how low the sportlines are, they don't have a high enough spring rate. And Eibach likes to keep their rates secret for some lame reason.

Yup I have skunk2 slip-ons and my heights adjustment is the lowest you can go lots of rattling noise from the rear.
That's why ksport dampers end of this year.

Skunk2 slip sucks!

Go look in the handling section and read up about coaxial spring mounting and recommended spring rates. If you still wanna go with a coilover kit like these just buy one of the cheap ebay kits. THROW AWAY the springs that come with the kit and replace with hypercoil springs in the rate of your choice. You'll have better springs than the eibachs the GC kit comes with and some money left over in your pocket. Don't choose too high of a spring rate 'cause unless you've got some primo shocks (which I doubt if you're asking about these) they won't be able to handle the springs and you will not be happy. So long as you choose a long enough spring that it still has some preload on it at full droop you will not have the 'rattle' everyone is bitchin' about.

Hi

I have the megan racing lowering springs on my 1G,together with their strut bars(front and rear). Its 350 in the front and 250 in the rear.I think its just right,i can corner like crazy now.Im running stock shocks still.Want to upgrade to a koni or tokico. But thats when i have $$. Megan racing is a nice brand, and not too expensive.Maybe you could look into those for your 2G

You need to fill the rest up with a helper spring to get rid of the rattling. :hellyeah:

Isn't the top spring perch supposed to be metal though? I thought most of the ebay ones come with a plastic one?

My ebay sourced kit was dirt cheap and came with an aluminum upper seat but that was a few (or five+) years ago. But plastic, how cheap can ya get? Even I'd have to pass on those.......

BTW I'm still using the ebay kit (with some 7" tall 325lb/in eibachs) on the rear corners of my car so the junk can hold up to the test of time.

If you kept the transaction email can you tell me the sellers name? I've found where to get the coil over sleeves separately.. but they're 40 bux a pop.

Running 7" in the front too?

A lot of people use the Eibach Pro and Tokiko setup. Thats what ill be running. Coil overs are good as long as you spend the money on them. Good as in 1000+. JIC and Tein have good ones but are really pricey.

That was over 5 years ago......I've got no records on them. There's several cheap no-name setups that advertise as being aluminum on ebay in the $50-100 (after shipping) range. My kit was from weaponr and was widely regarded as junk.

Take the time to do some research - I had eibach p/n 0700.250.350 springs front and 0700.250.325 rear on the older taller AGX's. It was a crummy ride and the AGX's didn't handle the spring rates well - once you adjusted them up they had way too much rebound and if you adjusted them for a nicer ride they'd bottom out all the time in the front. The roads around Birmingham can be pretty crummy and I will tell you I would have rather had koni's and the eibach prokit.

I'm running 450lb/in springs in the front now on some 6276 qa-1 shocks and it actually rides better and has less understeer despite the rate increase. My new setup has coaxial mounted springs though and the shocks are a bit more robust than average. I've still got the same agx's/springs in the back and I like this setup quite a bit so far - I'd rather have it than the koni/prokit. Even so I am planning on changing to something like a qa1 6275 or 6275-3 shocks in the near future for a better shock rate and a bit more travel in the rear suspension.

If you are wondering I think the understeer decrease despite stiffer springs is due to the front spending time on the bump stops at the limit with the old setup.

Edit:If you start looking you'll find the guys who actually race/raced their cars competitively do not seem to have a very high opinion of Jic and Tein.

IMO cup kits are not coilovers LOL.. Do yourself and your car a favor and go with the springs and struts or REAL coilovers. You will spend more money now but be WAY happier in the long run! GL hope that helps

I would go with a nice set of lowering springs from a reputable company. Also pair them with some decent shocks. Unless you have the money to go with some nice coilovers.
