coil on plug setup

well after reading thru those links it seems that you might have problems if not running a msd, aem etc...aftermarket ignition? can anyone confirm they use the COP setup without an aftermarket ignition. this will be my disiding factor.

Is this mostly a cosmetic thing you want it for?
I'm just curious because I spent several days researching this when I thought my coils had died (it was the ECU) in the summer. The overwhelming consensus seems to be that the only benefit of COP setups is you never need to buy plug wires again. On the other hand I've seen lots of accounts of COP coil packs burning out fairly quickly because they're not designed to be used with wasted spark ignitions. The cheap packages seemed to be even more prone to the coils burning out fast.

I`ve been running my cop setup trouble free for 2 years. I think the coils I have are from a late 90`s Chrysler Concorde or Dodge Intrepid. On those models, they DO use a wasted spark system as 2 coils fire consecutively in those cars. I`ve had no problems at all with my cop . . . :talon:

I wouldn't buy stuff off eBay. SBR sells them for $380ish or so. As for COP with stock coil or aftermarket its negligable (sp?) for spark output. In my experience, it worked out that with stock coil (worked well), a good set of plug's, and 8mm wires worked better for a breaking up problem on my buddy's 91 TSi then the same coil with a COP set-up. It stopped breaking up with the coil, and wires, and it still continued with the coil [same one], and COP set-up. This is as far as Ive gone into it, but Ive been told [yes, I know not to post on what we think, or have been told] that with a good aftermarket ignition such as MSD with a COP it work's better then an MSD with wires, BUT this can obviously be argued, with great supporting argument's on both sides. I would like to hear people's personal experiences with MSD/COP vs MSD/wires (and size of wires).
