Coil on Plug setup Install help

Depends on if you're making your own, or buying a prebuilt. You'll need to take note of your coilpack plug style if you're buying a prebuilt.

If you're asking if anyone has done it, yes. There are even premade plug-and-play COP systems out there. Buschur makes one, and I believe Slowboy stocks a solution. It's not particularly neccessary though, the stock ignition coils on our cars can support more hp than most DSMers will ever actually realize.. relegating COP to being primarily a 'engine bay dress-up' more than a performance gain for the majority of those who go for it.

Personally I'd like to see a relay based switching system to eliminate the 'waste spark' and make the single plug fire twice as strong integrated into a COP setup, assuming the 'dry fire' isn't there to do something like help the plug clean itself.

I bought mine pre-made (dejon). I had mostly underhood appearance in mind when I got it, however I think it does deliver slightly better performance under boost. It also eliminates the need to ever have to replace wires again (I`ve gone through 2 sets of quality wires), & it delivers good solid spark directly to the plug, without the resistence of wires . . . :talon:

Took a look at your pics because I'm looking at doing the COP. Had a thought, do you use your AC? If so, get those heat shields back on. I had the lower one off and it MELTED my AC fan blades.

Keep in mind I'm old and live in Iowa where the humidity is a bi***. So i run AC even if it would cut my hp in 1/2.

Never had a problem with that, however, I did paint the fan blades with hi-heat paint (the same paint as the manifold). I even ren a tubular header for a while (it started to crack from heat), & never had an issue with heat-related failures due to lack of shielding.

True that about the a/c! It gets hot here in the northeast in July & august, & the a/c. in this car is ice cold . . . :talon:

If you do decide to go COP than get the premade assembly. All you have to do than is bolt it on and plug it in.

Where is the best place to buy the COP system? I am not really looking for it as a dress up item but more for a performance mod. I would like to spend aroudnd 300-340. I know that SBR stocks them but they are super expensive! Any ideas?

Thanks

Ben

Buschur Racing is where I got mine pre-made for 300 dollars is a decent deal....

If you are decent with metal, you can build a nice plate out of aluminun for maybe $10 plus about $50 a coil brand new. Then all you have to do is go to a junk yard and find the connectors. The connectors are outragous new. Personaly I have $5 in my set up and love it. It cleaned things up alot.

Just placed an order with Buschur Racing for the full COP setup. Anyone have any experience with them? Why is it that they dont have shipping in their invoice?

Turbo90GSX that looks sick! Wish I had some decent skills to fab some metal items....but I dont. :<

Connectors can be had from the newer intrepids, 300m, sebring, corolla, and some other. Just go to the junkyard and look around for cars with coil on plugs.

I don't mean to high jack this tread but does it matter what kinda of car the coils come off
Theres a junk yard near me and a sall a couple of cars that have coil on plugs i was wondering if i could use them on mine from any car?
