So I have narrowed my problem with my talon down to fuel. I was hoeing the fuel line after the filter and had someone start the car and it gets fuel pressure for a couple seconds then loses fuel pressure and then dies. I am also getting a code 42 from the ecu. I know the pum works because it is brand new and it is pressurizing the fuel system for a couple seconds. I checked the mpi relay and it tests fine. I'm not exactly sure where the fuel pump relay is. I am stumped as of now and cannot figure out what's wrong. My talon has been out of commission for a couple months now and I really want to get it working again :banghead: any help would be appreciated. I have taken my ecu out and checked pin 13 and it looks fine. There is some capacitor leakage but nothing is burnt.

Unless you've added a new Fuel Pump Relay via a rewire the factory one is part of the MPI relay.

Code 42 means that the ECU tried to activate the fuel pump but didn't see 12v on pin 13.

A quick test is to ground pin 56 on the ECU or the pin it runs to at the MPI relay. That should turn on the pump, if you can start the car and it stays running and you don't get the code I'd guess the ECU has damage to the circuits feeding pin 56.

What would be a good way to try grounding the pin on the ecu while it's still plugged in? Also Steve I have read in some posts that you might have some refurbed ecus ? I was just wondering if you do if I could buy one from you?

If you're asking, then the best way is at the MPI relay not the ECU where it's easy to get confused. It's also easier to unbolt the MPI relay and access the connector.

You want to ground the white wire with red stripe going to pin 7 on the relay. That will cause the fuel pump to run whenever the ignition switch is in RUN or START.

In both cases you'll note that for testing the back side of the connectors where the wires come out are open and you can push a properly sized wire in and touch the individual terminal, ground the other end of that wire.

I do have some ECU's left over from when I was repairing them.

I was getting this code about a month ago and it turned out that the ends of the wires were loose on the ECU pins. You can tighten the wire ends by using a needle and pushing it through the adjustment hole per the FSM. It fixed my problem. I would check everything else first like Steve is saying and if everything checks out fine then try adjusting the wire end in the connector.

Alright so I did what steve said and the car ran. It ran pretty poorly and dumped white smoke but it stayed going (That could also be beasue I removed the CAS a while back so the timing is probably off now) So this means that there is damage to my ECU on pin 56? I was looking at sending my ECU into ECUTuning and having it fixed but I don't really know anything about if they can fix stuff like this or if they just replace the capacitors and remove the leakage from the capacitors. I did see that you had the same ECU I have on the list of the ECUs you have steve and I was wondering how much you would want for it. I have an MD165531
