so heres where i am so far. i just got this car and am trying to get everything out. when i got in the car the first time i pushed down the clutch and my brake lights came on and they still come on when i push the brakes. i unplugged the brake switch and they still come on when i push in the clutch and vise versa. there is no visible tampering in the wiring harness. i also tried unplugging the cruise because that is a common component and it still does it. any ideas would be great because i am more than stumped right now.

On cars with cruise control, there should be two brake related connectors under the dash. One is a four pin that should be connected to the Brake/Stop switch while the other is a two pin that should be open/disconnected. I would suggest making sure that the two pin connector is indeed open/disconnected and not accidentally connected somewhere it should not be. You should be able to follow the green and/or green/white wires from the four pin to this two pin connector to identify it. Basically, battery voltage has got to get on this green wire to light the brake lights. Incorming power should be on the green/white wire.

Looking closer at my electrical manual, there should also be two 2-pin switch connections associated with the clutch: One for the start circuit and one for the cruise control. Based on connector diagrams in the manual, it looks like the second brake connector might potentially be confused for the cruise/clutch connector, but less likely so for the start connector. Not sure that they're directly interchangeable, but it's something to check that might explain the clutch activating the brake lights if it is...

thanks i had been looking at regular wiring diagrams and they werent helping me. Im going to check that out on monday and ill let uk what i come up with

If you're going to leave CC unlinked, I would remove the entire component under the hood. I'm currently attempting this, and it just requires removing the entire CC box in the upper left hand side of the engine bay and rewiring the throttle line to bypass the cruise control box.
