Algonquin,
so this is the first time this has happend. but when i floored it and boost kicked in.. i felt a shaking and it didn't seem like the clutch was grabbing. i tried it a couple times.. and it wouldn't take off like normally it would when the boost kicks in. anyone know what the problem is??? i didn't smell the clutch burning so i don't think its that. but if anyone can help i'd appreciate it. thanks.

My clutch has been on its way out this last week. The RPMs climbed in 3rd faster than they did in 2nd, but i wasnt going anywhere. It didnt jerk, i didnt smell my clutch. Either way, my car has 60k on it, all stage 1 and 2 mods, and still the stock clutch. Upgrade to an ACT 2100 or 2600 and a flywheel while you're at it. I went with the fidanza 8lb for $250.

Good luck.

If you are going with ACT go ahead and get their lighten flywheel. I know a couple of guys that have the fidanza and are switching them for an ACT Streetlite flywheel. The quick rpm fall is greater in the fidanza than the ACT and it hurts 'some' of the streetability.

I don't have the wieghts memorized but I am sure you can get a good estimate from a dsm shop or by searching for a thread on here.:thumb:

so you guys think its the clutch??

thing is that my clutch went out this last summer when i bought the car. when ever boost kicked in the rpms would go up and as the clutch grabbed it would smell bad. so i got a new clutch.. (not a performance, my dad is cheap) so this clutch has like 6K milkes on it. and i don't really have any big mods.

and right now.. when the boost kicks in.. it just slips, it doesn't grab eventually like it did when my clutch was going out last summer. it feels different. so i don't know what it is??? i'm gonna take it for test drive again today to see if it still does. anything else it could be beside teh clutch??? thanks guys

if you get a new clutch on a used flywheel itll cause problems, something about the step hight wont match fiction surface on the flywheel cause it changes over time on a old flywheel and itll kill a new clutch disk fast or glaze it or something like that, i think, hehe. That might be what happened, maybe.

Yet another reason for getting the ACT flywheel with the act clutch. They already have the step in them.

Yes, if you don't resurface a flywheel you will cause the clutch to eat itself at a much faster rate. It has everything to do with the contact of the surfaces at the right areas at all time.

I am sure you can find a shop that sells the clutch at a good price with free shipping. Just get the clutch kit and some tranny fluid and be done with it. If you are slipping through the rpms and are still putting along then YES your clutch is about to shit the bed.

LOL....kind of ironic that this was just posted. My car just started to give me the same problem here in the last week (figures...i just replaced the water pump and resurfaced the head...damb dsm's). I realized it was the clutch, so now im looking for a clutch and new flywheel while im at it. Anyone know where i can get both an ACT 2100 or 2600 along with a ACT Streetlite flywheel for a decent price?? Thanx guys,

Nate

Now you can point out that cheap is not cheap!! How cheap is it if you ave to pay for it twice? It pays off in the long run to get quality in the clutch department. Exhaust is another story. But clutch is def. a price sensitive part on the DSM. Find a good price and save up those pennies!:thumb:

I got my 2600 clutch kit from Slowboy racing.

I got my streetlite flywheel from prostreetsonline.

They are both good in my book! Going to be about $675 for both including the tranny fluid. Sounds good to me. You might be able to find them cheaper, but these 2 places sell them with FREE SHIPPING.

i got a whole new clutch kit.

and i took it for a drive just now again to examine it more. and it still does it. when boost kicks in, it'll sruggle and shake a lil bit but then grabs. no smell of burning clutch and rpms don't really jump up like it did when my clutch was goin before. this is so frutstrating.. i'm definetely selling this car. anyone interested??

I have not seen this to be true. My friend has the Fidanza on his 1g AWD and has had no problems whatsoever. Plus, the 7 bolt FWD flywheel is also a tad heavier. And Shep uses the Fidanza, so thats all the reason I need...:thumb:

From the words of the man himself!! OMG

If you want more proof of why I stated the facts between the 2 just ask. ;)

Plus the fact that all of your references are from AWD cars that can handle the higher rpm launch more than your FWD. If that is how you drive the car all the time then have at it. Almost all of the shops have said nothing but good things about the ACT flywheel. Besides that I have never heard ANYONE complain about it. On the otherside, I have heard many people mad about the need of a high rpm launch or even town driving. Even 1 complaint is more than I have ever heard of the ACT!

Well, that thread was back in October, about a month ago when I checked the site it said he was running the Fidanza. I am not saying the ACT is at all any worse. I got the Fidanza because it was cheap as hell, and really light.

"The drivetrain has been bolstered with an an ACPT carbon-fiber driveshaft and ACT 3,200-lb pressure plate and street disc clutch assembly, which actuates a lightened Fidanza flywheel. The transmission was reassembled by Shepherd according to his own formula for success--but retains its original factory gear ratios. The factory differentials remain in place."

Found it. This was under the mod list about a month ago.

can you guys take your arguement somewhere else, its not helping.

anyway, would it help if adjust the free play on the pedal. cause my pedal has no free play right now. i was thinkin about ajusting that rod. would that help?

so i adjust the pedal play and took for a drive again. and same thing. but i noticed that when the "slipping occurs" the rpms don't sky rocket like they did previosouly w/ my old clutch. so i was thinking, could it maybe be the fuel system? injectors or pump?? cause when i slowing giving gas boost kicks in and car takes w/ some a lil slipping. but when i punch it.. it like hesitiates wheather to go or no?? kind put puts and shakes. any ideas thanks

chuckles to self..............

Its NOT your clutch. My car did the "Exact" same thing when i got it.
Its your plug wires and spark plugs.

so its definetly not the clutch. cause it i did the gas a few times while parked and it would sputter so. i'm gonna try replacing the wires and plugs.

whick plugs should i get.. nkg BPR7ES OR BPR6ES??

and wires i'm gonna go w/ accel thunderstorm 300+, are those good?

also i'm at school so i can't do any repairs here cause of no tools, so will i be okay to drive back home, about 250miles??

thanks again guys.

Calm down. We weren't arguing (at least I wasn't) Just talking about two awsome flywheels. Sorry we got sidetracked, but no need to be negative.

But yes, my car did this too at one point. From about 3.5-5k rpm under boost it did that. I bought a set of MSD 8.5mm for $30 and it went away.

Dan

i didn't mean to be negative, i just didn't want the thread to change.

anyway where did you get the msd for 30bucks?

how do you tell if you need new wires and plugs. cause my wires look in good still. and i looked at the plugs and they're still shiny and can see the metal fine.

the wires are stock still (43kmiles) plugs have about 5k miles.
