Clutch Questions

What can go bad if I keep driving my car with the clutch going bad. It is slipping kinda bad, is that just the pressure plate or is that more. The RPMs go up high but the car doesnt move any faster when i push on the gas pedal kinda hard. That is the clutch slipping right? Thanks for all the help guys, i know its a dumb question. My car is a manual.

well there are a few things that can make it go bad, but the general idea is not enough friction between the disk and the flywheel/pressure plate friction surface area.

i guess the biggest things i would worry about with driving your car on a bad clutch is hurting your flywheel, and getting stranded.

Haha ok thanks. So that does sound like the clutch is slipping though? And so should I just buy the pressure plate?

When mine started slipping I drove it foe about a week and when I took my pressure plate off too my suprise it came out in 4 pieces ( I wish I had pics), the clutch was cracked almost to then bushing and oh yeah the flywheel was cracked too.

So basically its hard to tell what you need until you have it all apart.
Make sure you order a new throw out bearing with your clutch.

Oh shit! Well i hope mine isnt like that. So I should just order a pressure plate and throw out bearing or the whole clutch kit? How long did it take for you to finish taking it out and putting one back in.T hanks guys.

Driving a car with a slipping clutch will overhead the flywheel and pressure plate. They slip because the lining on the friction disk has gotten worn too thin. The flywheel and/or pressure plate can crack and frag. Modern clutches come as kits, including the throwout bearing.

You can also just buy a new clutch disc, if you don't want to spend all the money for a new pressure plate.

Nope. Gotta pull the tranny, then the clutch to have a look at the flywheel/pressure plate. As for where to get the stuff you need, it depends on what you want. If you want something stock, local auto parts store will have your entire clutch for maybe $150, + $25 for a new throw out bearing from the dealer ( if it's not already included in the clutch kit). Otherwise, ACT 2100 kits start out around $330 shipped. ACT 2600's around $375 shipped.
