ive searched this forum but didnt see the same exact problem as i have.

when i press the clutch in slowly with very little effort at all it goes all the way down and stays there. but when i press it in normally it doesnt stick and comes back up fine sometimes. i have an act 2600 so i know its not that easy to push down. i see no visible leaks at the clutch master or slave. i would like some opinions on which one is most likely causing this problem. thanks.

Ghost pedal maybe?
Check Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance they have some great write ups regarding this sort of thing.

If it is ghost pedal, you may have to replace your master to fix it. There is a seal that goes bad in the cylinder and when it ages/gets weak, it allows fluid to slip by the seal when under little to no pressure - but give it a normal push and like you mentioned, it appears to work fine.

yea im going to replace it. ghost pedal does sound right, it did go down slowly on its own once.

I've got the same problem and I just recently had my master and slave changed out. Is it possible that I received a bad master slave (the part was brand new from NAPA)? I've checked around a ton of places and everyone seems to come up with different stuff.

I also get a squishy clutch sometimes, and it was bled numerous times.

P.S - I don't mean to hijack your thread, I just didn't want to post a brand new thread for the same sort of thing.

I have the same problem. My clutch went, so we replaced it with an ACT 2600. We put everything back together, and now the clutch pedal won't act right, almost as if the clutch isn't engaging at all. We've replaced the master and slave cylinder, bled the entire system thoroughly, and its still acting funny. We've had two new masters in there, and the problem still persists. Also don't mean to hijack this thread, but we've had the same problem. Any ideas/suggestions????

Thanks!

Just to update...my flywheel was not stepped correctly. It was resurfaced and stepped for stock. We bought a fidanza flywheel, bolted everything back on, and after an extensive bleeding of the system the clutch felt rock solid and ready to go. It's been a month and it's working really well. My suggestion is to check the flywheel first before bolting everything back up and making sure that the thing is stepped correctly. If this doesn't work, then check the slave and master.

Also just as a side note:

In order to get the clutch to engage and DISENGAGE properly, we had to put 4 washers on the slave cylinder rod. After we had replaced the flywheel, bolted everything up, and bled the system it was acting as if it was constantly engaged. We called ACT and they couldn't tell us what was going on, but RRE suggested that we try the washer method. We basically used trial and error to figure out how many washers were needed, but since then it has been working perfectly. I don't know whether this was a freak thing with my car or what, but this is the method that worked for me.
