clutch only slipping in 3rd?

Ok im having a pretty weird problem. My car is pretty much stock, just turned the boost up to 11-12ish psi, and a 3'' downpipe. In first gear it will just blow the tires off (fwd obviously) 2nd gear will spin the tired a little bit than catch and go. When I get on it in 3rd gear the rpm's will raise up pretty damn quick, but the car wont increase speed as fast as the rpms are rising. I know this car doesnt have THAT short of a 3rd gear, so it seems to me the clutch is slipping. Today I tried it again, and still the rpms rose wayyy faster than the MPH, so I pulled right over, popped the hood and tried smelling for clutch, but couldnt smell anything. The fluid level is perfect, no leaks from the slave or master.

Im kinda stumped on this one, I would think that if the clutch were slipping it would atleast slip in 2nd gear too if not first?!?!

Its possible that you could have a bad 3rd gear in the transmission. Only way to really pinpoint it would be to have someone look at the trans and check it out to make sure everything is just dandy for you.

ehhh I could be wrong, but I dont think the gears in the tranny would slip. There either engaged or disengaged.

It's normal for clutch slip to present itself on the higher gears first. I'm willing to be that it slips under power in 4th and 5th also. Eventually, as the clutch gets more and more worn out, you will begin to slip in the lower gears.

Best to change it now. Might save your flywheel.

If you're in a pinch, you can try adjusting your master clutch cylinder to see if it will allow the clutch to grab better.

Agreed. Normally the best test for a dying clutch is to get on the highway, get it into 5th at say around 2-2.5k rpms and then just floor it. As the car starts to see a load it will let you know if the clutch is going out.

I found out my stock clutch was about to go out one day while sitting on the rollers. Just as soon as I would hit boost in 3rd bam tach would jump up real fast and power would die.
