well i just got the act2600 put in a couple weeks ago and i noticed that when the clutch is not engaged it makes a chatter noise. i suspect this is clutch chatter but i dont know what is causing it or what i should do. it happened to my last clutch but was much louder. i just want to try and get it fixed before it keeps getting worse. if u guys could let me know why it would be doing it and what i should do that would be great.
THANKS ALOT

Man Igot an 90' AWD TSI and i've got an 2600 clutch brand new with about 1000 miles it and it just started doing that too. when the clutch is engaged it is fine but when i go to let the clutch out it starts making this loud rackect and sounds like the engine is comming apart. the engine is just rebiuld. any help would be greatly Apperated. thanks Joe

ya i am just hoping it will be something easy to fix, cuz like i said it did the same thing on the stock clutch i had and just kept getting worse until one day it messed up completely and i could barely drive, any help here is greatly appreciated

Well let me start from the beginning. I had a stock clutch and flywheel in the car, and I was beating the shit out of the car. I shifted to third gear and there was like a jerk back. After that I pulled into my dude's drive-way and there was a noise coming from the transmission. So he said "push the clutch in” so I pushed the clutch in, and the noise went away. So then he said “let the clutch out" so I did, and the noise came back. The noise is like a chaffing or grinding noise. When you have the clutch pedal out is makes the noise. When the pedal is pushed in is goes away except if you rev it to like 5,000 it makes the noise while the rpm's are falling, and when it hits 5,000 its ber ber ber berrrrrrr. So I put in a new clutch ACT 2600. So that took me a couple of days because it was my first time dropping the tranny. So I put it all back together and it working for a little while and the all the sudden started again. So I took it all apart and noticed that some of the bolts on the flywheel were loose and I could take them off by hand. So I tightened the shit out of the and put it all back together. Everything was great then about five minutes later I floored the card and it started the noise again. So it took it all apart again this is like the 3rd or 4th time. And the flywheel bots were loose again. So I bought and eight pound fidenza flywheel. Put it all back together and it was working awesome. But I drove around for about a half-an-hour and it started making that Freaking noise again. I do not know if the bolts a loose again because I’m going to wait to take it apart again because I want to see what someone has to say. So I have put a new through out bearing a new clutch and a new flywheel and I’m still having the chattering clutch noise when the clutch is out or the car is revved up. I have no idea what to do now and I’m very frustrated can someone please help me? Please e-mail at [email protected] I would really appreciate it. Or please post a reply to this thread! THANKS

did you torque the flywheel bolts and use loctite or similair thread sealer? it's 100 ft/lbs for me, might be different for you. also, did you go through a proper break-in period for the clutch?

Did you torque the flywheel bolts to 95'lbs?
If you did and they still come out, I say loctite those bad boys with some of the red stuff. :thumb:

I was going to suggest the release bearing, but since you said you put in a new one..... I will say that I have heard some brand new ones chatter. Not sure wy they do, but they do. Did you get the one with the plastic?

sounds like your goin through the same thing i am. does it make the noise any louder when your cxrank the wheel all the way? does the clicking/clatrtering noise get any louder when you move your shifter? have you taken your tranny apart to look inside? i too had a suspcious noise and replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and other small things, and i still had the noise, so i took it into a shop, found out that my whole tranny was just ####ed. everything but the case is bad. he said it may not have been that bad had i not driven on it. (to and from work for 2 weeks, work is 4 mioles away from home)

keep that in mind, good luck, and hope you dont need a new tranny

Ok guys thanks for all of the help. Let me tell you how i finally fixed the problem. I used blue lock tight and tightned the shit out of the flywheel bolts. When i was putting the tranny in i noticed that all of the other times that one of the bolts on the transmission mount had a little bit of a gap between the mount and the tranny. So i put a jack under the tranny to put preassure under it and hold it flush to the tranny mount and then put the two 17mm bolts in that hold the tranny up to that mount. I started the car and beat the hell out of it and still no problems. So the actual problem was i think the transmission was not mounted correctly it was off a little bit, and that was causing the flywheel bolts to come loose and make the noise. My problem is now fixed and can sleep at night :)

But in trying to fix this problem i bought a fidenza lightned flywheel and an ACT 2600 clutch. Also a TOB. But no big deal it just makes things better for the future.
