My clutch goes to the floor after a fresh engine rebuild and before first start is this normal?
 
No, well, I mean maybe, but it indicates something is up with your clutch. Hopefully just needs bled & adjusted. There are great posts on how to do it, and I found the video on Jack’s Transmissions to be informative. Hopefully not a deeper issue with clutch dimensions. Did you replace any of the clutch with the motor out, or machine the flywheel? Step height plays a critical role in how it engages.
 
As already mentioned, hopefully this is just your clutch needing to be bled. However, if it's more than that and you need to readjust your clutch, please do not use the Jack's Transmission video. I have watched it, and it is very boring, and very.... :hmm: lacking in detail. I personally insist you instead watch the same info from Jafromobile. He presents everything much better, and better still, shows everything while still installed on the car, so it's easier to follow, and his video has better audio too, so you can actually hear him talk. Better all around. Here's the link:
