I got a 97 gst the other day.. Been daily driving it. Ran great no problems until last night. It was parked for 3-4 hours and when I got in the clutch felt softer than usual. But I ignored it because the car is still new to me and haven't got the full feel for it. When I started shifting I noticed it was grabbing gears way quicker barely letting off the clutch. And it felt harder to shift . Then it was normal all of the sudden so I took it home.
This morning I started her up and it did the same thing! Weird for 5 minutes then normal. What could be causing this? I don't want to drive it anymore.

Check the clutch slave cylinder also. Same issue before mine went out. $25 part

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't done anything to the car yet.
Today I started her up and it wouldn't go into gear at all when the car was on. I didn't want to force it in so I shut it off after 5 minutes of idling.

I should have fixed the problem right away.. And I still have no clue what's wrong with it.

Today's my birthday and I can't drive it !! :(

If slave is leaking, you can get a rebuild kit from Auto parts store. $6

I did two of them like that and they worked fine. But in general OEM is better if you can coin up $75 for slave and about $150 for master.

Thanks! Any tips on how to do it? And does it matter what brand

There are lots of threads on replacing. It's very easy, located front bottom center of motor. Only 2 bolts to remove. I bought mine from Napa. No issues.

Tried bleeding the clutch..Nothing.
Looked at the slave and master. Both good.
My buddy that looked at the car said the fork has a lot of play and touches the tranny when clutch is down.
I'm lost now.

Without your foot on the pedal. That fork shouldn't be extended that far out. With no pressure it should be in the middle of the grommet or more toward drivers side of the car. Fulcrum(pivot ball) in this picture needs to be addressed whether it be shimming it or something else may be going on with Jesus clip, tob, or fork itself.

This is with the clutch down. If you look closely at the picture it hits the back part which comes out more to the right.

Today when I cranked her up it went into gears smoothly then 10 seconds later got stuck in neutral again

If anyone can help thank you in advanced I wanna get her on the streets again.

If it's intermittent, then it's most likely what everyone else said clutch master cylinder, slave or possibly but not likely the rubber hose. I have had that very same problem on several cars including my talon, sometimes it was the slave, another time the clutch pedal would not return and was stuck on the floor that was the clutch master cylinder. Also make sure your clutch pedal push rod is properly adjusted, there is a nice write up on here on it and the importance of having it correct. The one from jacks transmission is invaluable and we all owe him a thanks for the knowledge he has giving the community.

Yes thank you but my buddy inspected the slave and master . Nothing leaking and he said they were fine. He took the slave off and put it back on to check it. What the hell else could it be?
