clutch burning question, how fast does it get burn?

i was teaching a friend to drive my stock 97 gst. she turned into a parking lot that was sloped. like about 35 degrees and it revved hard and finally made it over. i saw lil smoke coming from under hte hood and i can smell of the clutch buring. how bad is the clutch damaged? how much of this abuse can it stand? its all stock. also does the clutch gets damaged when the car jerks and stalls. how much time until i have to replace a new clutch.

Your clutch is probably okay if it doesn't have a ton of miles on it. If the car just revs up and the clutch doesn't grab when you are on the freeway then you know that it is about time for a new one. The problem that I had, is that I drove around to much with a bad clutch and I ended up heating up the flywheel so much that it cracked in a bunch of places and was not usable anymore. but you will probably know when it is time to replace it by the way the car drives. I new my car needed a clutch but I kept driving it anyways.

Ya you will feel it start to slip WAY before it just dies on you.

I burnt my clutch like once a day well I was learning to drive my stick for a month stright like that and I had no problems so far.

i totally freid mine trying to race my buddies 300zx. i was so nervous that i slipped the clutch all through 1st, so bad it glazed it, and slipped half of 2nd, finally grabbed, then slipped hard going into 3rd. needless to say i lost.

then when driving if i hit anything over 5psi in 4th(more load) it would slip. then got to a point anything over 0psi in 3rd it would slip. then i replaced it, clutch was done for, rivets contacted the flywheel and needed to be resurfaced.

next time youre on the freeway just punch it and leave it in 5th/4th and if it revs and doesnt go any faster and smells like toasty clutch, its fried.

the clutch was never replaced so its 83,000 miles. so long until i have to replace it? also how would you know if it is slipping? she told me that she only press the clutch in all the way on first and for 2nd and 3rd she pushed it in a lil more than half way and shifted. is that alright?

And if what your doing is for ass, I feel bad for you. DSM's are bad as it is, we dont need some kid to by a decent dsm and so he decided to "teach" aka wear out your clutch and your wallet, just so you could tap that fat ass.
