in my 91 dsm awd.

well my 1st gear grinds a little and comes back out then there will be a small rev when that happends. i'll have to use 2nd gear to get out from a stop intead of 1st gear most of the time. is that bad for the clutch or tranny reving 2nd gear and then go. i have to high rev it in 2nd so that the car will not stall. during that phase, if it stall, there will be a few loud clunk, clunk, coming either from the transmission, transfer case or the transaxle untill higher rev in 2nd.

1st gear will hold putting in at 10-15 mph to a stop but from a dead stop in nuetral, 1st gear will never hold. it'll just grind and come back out.

i mess around witht he clutch adjustment when i install my clutch, i don't know if threw the adjustment off or anything.

thank in advance.

The key springs for the 1st gear synchronize hub are worn and result in popping out of gear.

Starting out in second is okay - you'll eventually wear out your clutch faster.

Please work on your sentence structure, As I had to read that a few times to understand you.

Definitely syncros. Tranny rebuilt. I know how it feels. Had the same thing happen to me, and I had to stick with starting off at 2nd for a while. Until, I had enough for the repair. Best of luck to you.

Also you could have a bad shift fork
If you are wanting to try replacing the parts yourself, I have a whole set of gear clusters for a 91 trans. I bought them to use in mine but the wouldn't work in my 93' trans. So I ended up buying the new parts to fix mine. Pm me if you are interested in buying them. The syncros and gears are in great shape with no chipped teeth what so ever. And I will let them go very cheap. I mean very cheap considering the price of them new.

A worn shift fork is highly unlikely to cause popping out of gear.

thanks guys.

that's great that i can use my 2nd gear for the time being. hopefully i can find another stock used tranny for a couple of hundred buck.

i was thinking about taking it apart and just switch out the the whole first gear set. never been inside or seen the gears. jacktransmission sells gear sets and was wondering if it's easy to just go in and swap them. will this fix my problem?
