Clunk sound while reversing in front suspension.

Gentlemen,

I've got a clunk sound, almost coming from what sounds like my passenger front camber or around that area. I've had the alignment checked and everything is in specs. The car has only 30K so I'm not sure if a bushing's old and just wore out from time or could something else be the problem?

does it go into gear ok? you might check your cv boot to make sure it isn't tore usually that would cause clicking around turns though more then in reverse. if its having trouble going into gear you might change your tranny fluid to the synchromesh

I have an auto and I've got no problems with the car going into gear.

thats good i would check visually, your lower control arm bushing to make sure its not tore. the cv axles for tears, maybe jack the car up and do the shake test to test the wheel hub. if you have abs on mine my pulse plate came loose and jingled around ended up cutting it off and pulling the abs fuse. if all of that checks out not sure where to go next.

Thank you sir. I started happening after I put the 18s with 225/40/18s on the car. Could that have something to
do with it?

Pretty sure 18s are as big as we can go so you should be safe there, does it look like there rubbing or anything? usually if it was the tire it would be hitting the fender well when making turns causing scraping not so much clunking. however with our cars anything really possible.

Check to make sure the spring isn't popping out of the top hat where your strut connects to the chassis

I took the wheel off and everything seemed to be normal. The clamp and lockring had a little grease showing, not sure if that's normal but, I cleaned it off.

With only 30K? The boot looked great. Should the grease be showing at all?

Grease around the cv boot? There shouldnt be, the boot is there to protect the bearings and joint and should create a good seal. Try cranking the wheel all the way to both side while moving slowly, listen for a clicking or popping sound. If you hear one then inspect the CV joint.

Also be sure to give the wheel a shake like jcarmichael mentioned.

autozone should carry them, dsmgraveyard, mitsubishi graveyard, jnztuning. getting one is the easy part replacing it is the part that can be a pita. if the car is fwd it might not be so bad though.

the awd's have a huge transfer case in the way anytime you have to do anything related to the front passenger side. the axles themselfs maybe a bit different as well.
