clogged cat?

OK in the process of installed my 16g i forgot to take out the little plastic cover on the turbo( to protect stuff from getting in i guess) where it connects to the oil pan. So when i went to start the engine, i find oil dumping down my exhaust( i saw oil gushing out cause i had a leak between the o2 housing and downpipe) my car drove for almost two days smoking like crazy and about 1 week my engine threw a cell for my rear o2 cat. my question is, do you think my cat was effected as well? sorry if i made it confusing

The catalytic converter is a ceramic honeycomb structure made for the purpose of catalyzing exhaust fumes hence the name catalytic converter. Gasoline which is unburned due to misfire, or oil which can be ignited by extreme heat can and often does damage a catalytic converter. Take it to an exhaust shop and have them do a backpressure test to see if it is OK. You may be lucky. And if not, they can install a good one for around 150.00 or so.

I doubt that the cat is permanently damaged since they are designed with "some" oil consumption in mind. they operate at such high temps that it will probably just burn any oil there is off and be fine. The rear o2 though could stand a replacing after something like that, I would try the o2 for now first, you can always replace the cat later if the problem does'nt go away.
