Clevite 99 main bearing instal

Hey guys and gals. Im in the process of building my motor. I order a load of stuff fron JNZ, and got clevite mains with it. The bearings i pulled from the block were the split thrust washer type, not the one peice center mains.

My question is, will the one peice mains work in the 99 block, that had the different style? Here is what i ordered

They say 7 bolt, yeah yeah, we all know the differences. I had to use my 97 girdle to even get the center bearings to work. What can someone tell me?

I have searched and searched to no avail.

Even JNZ says theyll work.

You need to use the split thrust washers in the 99 block. You also won't make it out of the driveway with the girdle from another block on the 99 block. Main girdles are machined to each individual block, and cannot interchange. Now a 7-bolt crankshaft is interchangeable from a 92.5 7-bolt, through an evo 9.

No they will not work....

I ordered clevite 77 bearings for my old 99 gsx and got the same kind as you....

The problem is the main center bearing....It is not wide enough....it WILL NOT fit over the block...you must get a split thrust style center bearing....

Whhhooooooopppsss.. I made a mistake, i was building my 97 block, with the 97 girdle all the while. No problem now. I do have a couple questions though. The book shows to torque the girdle to 17 ft lbs, this seems low to me. I tried a little more, and i couldnt spin the crank. And yes, im using the proper lube, etc, this isnt my first showdown. I am using ARP main studs, so the fasteners are no problem. What should this be torqued to?


Also, i bought a forward facing oil filter housing. There are two holes. One that is 1/8'' NPT, and the other is much larger with a plug in the hole. Can i unplug this, and use it to feed my turbo, with the 90 degree adapter that came with my SS feed line? I believe it is the same thread, but im not sure if this plug is a pressurized area, or just a service plug, or who knows what.
