Im getting a 6 bolt crankshaft cut due to the previous owner having no knowledge of engine assembly. My machine shop is going to be using Clevite 77's for the cut crank. My question is when i assemble the mains and rods what spec clearance should i apply to the build? I was doing a little research and came across this on the Clevite website

OIL CLEARANCE - RESIZED BEARINGS
The oil clearance shown in this catalog are for the factory manufactured precision sizes. When installing a resized bearing, adjust the oil clearance shown as follows:
For babbitt and TM-77 copper-lead:
Add .0004” (.010mm) to both low and high limit
For TM-112 copper-lead:
Add .0008” (.020mm) to low limit and .0004”(.010 mm) to high limit

Should i follow their clearances or follow stock specs?
What have you guys done when you used these bearings?
By the way this is just a stock rebuild....

Anybody?

Well what HP level are you going for?

What is the main use of the engine?

.0004 is 4 tenths of one thousand of an inch, keep in mind that the avarge thickness of a sheet of note book paper is .003 thick.

So .0004 is such a small change it will have little effect, so if the factory spec is say .002-.003 on the mains, the cleivite spec would be .0024-.0034.

Also if the engine has the BSE done, (beraring flip block off style) and excessive high oil pressure the .0004 will be just fine.

The motor will be mostly seeing stock boost levels with no high hp application and has BS removed. Thanks for the help!
