ok so i got this friend who says that he would rather have a civic turbo over a eclipse. i looked at him and laughed and told him what i thought, hes got a civic b16 non turbo, i got my 99 spyder turbo. i got the t04b v-trim on the way, with all the supporting mods, and i told him when he gets his shit turbo'd bring it on. what you guys think of the little ricer hondas???
 
I think you're asking a biased group a biased answer. If you want to see who will win go to the dragstrip, do it legally and find out for yourself. If you're scared he'll win, think of it this way. There will always be someone faster, and there will always be someone slower. Hondas are fun cars, as are dsms. I wish the bench racing would really stop somehow. Nature of the beast.

I think i have gotten owned by some hondas, and rightfully so. Its not for me, but some of those honda guys know what they are doing, i think a dsm has more potential, but if i was going to put up a dsm against one, it wouldnt be a convertible and it wouldnt be front wheel drive. However that is one large turbo, depends on setups.

A turbo B-16 isn't a joke. I've seen so many dyno slips for "Stock internal" tubroed b16' setups, hitting 240 whp @ 6psi. Id take one, but would perfer a turbo b20 vtec. A while back there was a k20(type-s) EK(92-95 civc hatch) swap video racing a EVO 8 at 20psi. It was all honda...

I have much respect for honda tuners. Why do you have to be bashing? Everything you said is hypathetical. Why don't you post when you guys race, rather then bench race it up?
 
FWD VS FWD I would take the civic or my preference would be a CRX or Del Sol. Smaller, lighter, cheaper to fix keep and mod.
If honda made an AWD newer civic, CRX, or del sol I would take that over a GSX too.
Of course I don't drag race, and I don't need 500 HP. I am more concerned with a well balanced car, lightweight, and a shorter wheelbase.

Be careful with the rice word. Not every honda is "rice" and there will always be a honda that can beat your car at something, even civics.
 
i think that the honda has a good chance. taking off weight is the same as horsepower. 100lbs is about 10 hp. fwd i really dont think are great drag cars. i use to own an acura 4 dore automatic and you can believe it or not but i raced an evo and i kept up with it in the turns with the acura being stock. if you are talking about a drag race i think that you have a good chance but if that car is up against you in the turns i think that the honda has a good chance sorry but ive seen what those cars can do and it is impressive good luck though
 
depends which end of the civic the engine is in. there was a CRX with a 3800SC series II stuffed in the back seat driving the rear wheels at a local car show here a couple years back. that thing was a monster..

i'd have to agree that there are some well built hondas out there, but most of the time the guys that are talking smack are the ones with a fart can and an intake and think they actually got the advertised 10 horsepower from the cannon, and 15 from the intake. They tell everyone their next mod is a turbo that will give them 500 hp. If ya ask them what kind of turbo they're lookin at, what kind internals they're thinkin about, or what they're doin with their fuel system, all they can do is either make stuff up or change the subject to the car he beat last night at a stop light while he was delivering pizzas. It makes me shudder to think about it, but I've met people with dsms that are the same way :thumbdown

Yeah people should stop dissin the manufacturers and fucus on the dumb asses that drive all makes and modles.

You see this is where it all begins. You started the shit talking when you posted the thread. Yes it's a dsm forum, yes we'll all say dsms are faster. But no one knows for sure. That is called bench racing. If you want to find out then race him at a legal track, and take the consequences. What I hate are people posting threads like these in the first place. Do you want a cookie? Are you that starved for attention? Seriously, put up shut up or go home. You are wasting bandwidth on something that should not have it spent on. STOP THE BENCH RACING. There will always be someone faster, doesn't matter what car what make what manufacturer. Get over yourself.
 
A car is a car.... wether it be Honda, dsm, or anything else for that matter. If u have money then basicly u can do whatever u want... which means even make your Honda fast as ####!.... not just the 4g63 motor has all the potential.

Ive seen cars that no one would think are fast, but when they leave u in the dust u start to feel like a loser.

I have to be honest... ive talked shit to a honda guy, and when we raced he beat me, not by much but he still won. SOOO as a tunner, these sorts of events should fuel the fire and the desire to get back to tha drawing board and really make you want to tune your car. So that you can talk shit and back it up. Which is much more satisfying.... :thumb:

As we have respect for all the different races of people on the planet... we should do the same for all types of makes and models of cars.

I agree a cars a car... but please dont call hondas rice, kids poor there blood and sweat in to there cars thinking there great and thats whats tuneing's all about oh... and if your freind gets a full kit from some wear like turbonetics/greddy or some where else good luck beating him... give or take if its set up right I'v had 2 turbo hondas and 4 turbos dsm's there all fast but those lil hondas and f/i are quick! :thumb:

The big thing right now at the local "dragstrip" (local airport runs races at night with timing lights and everything for $7) is early honda hatches and CRXs with k20s adn b18c5s swapped in and stripped down to practically the shell

Those little mofos are getting to do it in the mild class too and are running high to mid 13s, when the best stcokish (no turbo or sidemount upgrades) is hard matched to run with em there...

On the street as a daily driver though I'd rather have the good old Eagle
 
Oh yeah, i drive a vw jetta and a 92 talon. Now that i have the talon once again i would rather not buy another thing for the jetta.....event though its turbo'd already its still SLOW. This is so off topic, but in a previous post about both cars have potential, i just wanted to clear up the fact that vw's are sloooowww unless you have an endless amt of money to spend. I mean the record quarter mile from a 2.08v is a 10 flat. And even if you swap for a digifant or cis 16v head, when turbo'd they make astounding #'s like 400whp but the thing is they have toooooo much torque. Eh im done ranting...btw what happened to the hangout?

Without anything to compare this to: I would say a DSM, especially the eclipse definately has more potential for top speed, grip, acceleration, etc. I say this because of how the cars are built first off. Secondly, the DSM definately is more aerodynamic than a Civic and therefore would have less drag. Thirdly, depending on your drive train you'll have much better handling and control over you vehicle with a DSM. However, and please correct me if I am wrong, aren't DSMs heavier?
