My passenger lower controal arm ball joint is gone. I called the dealership and told them I need the recall done. They say ok. I bring my car in and they wont do it because my car has 150k on it.

When I brought it into Canada from the states they did an inspecition on the ball joints and it passed, so they say that the inspection counts as the recall being done.

I just want to know what you guys think...

That issue sounds pretty crazy. You do have a lot of miles, but the matter in hand is the fact it is a recall, and not a warranty issue which could be limited to years and or miles. Are there any others places which you could bring your car?

it doent't matter it is a safty recall. they have to do it for the life of the car. unless they put on a revised part. which they do but it is still crap.

sue them. This is a saftey issue. They dont do recalls unless there people die. I dont think they want a death suit on there hands either. So therefor they should be put in.

then again your in canada. Best luck on that.

i had that happen to me -- a call to customer service @ chrysler solved it.
DCX customer service called the dealer and set them straight.

I have the passanger side lower and lateral control arms for free if you want them. Just pay the shipping. You do need to replace the ball joints and I have extra boots for them. You can pick the joints up at napa. Just PM if interested.

I just did the work myself. But I bought new parts from mitsu rather rebuilding the joint, so I am not exactly sure what all goes into them.

Thanks for the replies guys. Im gonna give customer service a call tomorrow and see how things turn out.

Splitpi thanks for the offer, but this needs to be fixed ASAP. So either they will fix it or I will.

i have some bad news for u but i can clearify your questions. im a certified chrysler mechanic. EVERY chrysler dealership does the exact same thing. once the car comes in the shop they log onto our Chrysler Star site and enter the VIN, exact mileage, and owners last name. from there i can see EVERY time the car was brought to a chrylser dealership and for what. i can also see what recalls have been done and what recalls need to be completed.

how long ago did u bring it to the dealership for the inspection. if its within 12 months/12k miles then they can still do the ball joint recall, other wise they CAN NOT submit a warrenty claim to chrysler, it will be rejected then the dealership has to pay for it. like i said we have to enter the vin, owners name, and the exact mileage when the car comes in the shop and we print out that info and submit it with EVERY work order form. believe me Chrysler is SUPER ANAL about warranty claims. i hope i helped u out and sorry for the bad news

Yeah I just got done talking to chrysler customer service. They wont do it because they consider inspecting the ball joint as actually doing the recall. So it looks like Im going to have to pay for this one.

The girl on the phone kept saying how the chrysler techs have a specific procedure that they have to do for a recall to be considered complete. I asked what it was and she said she isnt allowed to say...what I know for sure is that they did not replace the ball joint.

i took mine in and they went right ahead an did it. 1995 Talon with 97k. Had the other two recalls done, but not that one. But if i remember correctly the recall stated that the "solution" was INSPECT the balljoints and replace if needed. You had them inspected already.

Yeah...I guess I wasnt lucky enough to have bad ball joints when they inspeced them.

Why not go get a junker car...get teh vin, call chrysler up. Tell them to see if the recalls been done. If they say no, tow the ####er in there. They're REQUIRED to do it so beat them at their own game. Once they get done, tow the ####er back home and viola free parts besides towing.
Last year my tcase locked up on me like less than a mile away from work and the Chrysler dealership. They said oh yeah we need to charge you 100 for a diagnostics fee and we can also fix that recall on the tcase. I was like #### that i KNOW FOR A FACT its the tcase. Just fix it and they said no they had to diagnose it first...I said Eff that l'm broke. I hung up, called back a few hours later and told them to DO the recall ONLY. I drove the car home a few days later for FREE!

hey 1gcrazy how bout u read my post, i said im a certified chrysler mechanic and i explained step by step how chrysler does everything. and your little idea wouldnt work:talon:

Excuse me....I apologize. I didn't' realize that when you said you were a certified Chrysler mechanic you meant you were every Chrysler mechanic on the PLANET!
I've had recalls done YEARS after they were expired so I really don't wanna hear what you can and can't do. If you tell me it CANT be done......I WILL find a way!
Last time someone told me I couldn't do something I bought a house for a dollar.;)

Maybe next time you should make sure your post isn't so hostile sounding. :thumb:

Its funny how every dealership is different. When i got my ball joints done, i ask the guy what would happen if my ball joints mess up again even after the recall was made. He told me that the recall can be done over and over again free of charge.

your right i did sound a tad hostile, but my point was from an inside guy for chrysler im just telling u how EVERY chrysler dealership deals with every car that comes in the door. and Chrysler is SUPER ANAL bout warranty claims, so im just trying to help the kid out and not giving him some false info.:talon:

1. i plan on moving to colorado in two years
2. ill give you TWO dollars for that house.

In Colorado Springs I can honestly find you a house for prices that rival dirt. In Denver, two years from now i'll probably have the same ability but check back with me. I'm a home investor so if you let me know I'll keep a look out for a house within your needs.

I was lucky to find a decent dealership close by but yeah i've heard some horror stories.

Well sometimes the things people say limit what can actually be done. How many people told the Wright brother's they couldnt' fly? Not tryin to be a dick just trying to keep things open minded.
Thanks for lettin us know that Chryslers anal...thats honestly some good info, hopefully we can all find a service tech that hates their employer HAH!:thumb:
