My passenger lower controal arm ball joint is gone. I called the dealership and told them I need the recall done. They say ok. I bring my car in and they wont do it because my car has 150k on it.

When I brought it into Canada from the states they did an inspecition on the ball joints and it passed, so they say that the inspection counts as the recall being done.

I just want to know what you guys think...

Why not go get a junker car...get teh vin, call chrysler up. Tell them to see if the recalls been done. If they say no, tow the ####er in there. They're REQUIRED to do it so beat them at their own game. Once they get done, tow the ####er back home and viola free parts besides towing.
Last year my tcase locked up on me like less than a mile away from work and the Chrysler dealership. They said oh yeah we need to charge you 100 for a diagnostics fee and we can also fix that recall on the tcase. I was like #### that i KNOW FOR A FACT its the tcase. Just fix it and they said no they had to diagnose it first...I said Eff that l'm broke. I hung up, called back a few hours later and told them to DO the recall ONLY. I drove the car home a few days later for FREE!

Alittle extreme don't you think? ROFL

i have some bad news for u but i can clearify your questions. im a certified chrysler mechanic. EVERY chrysler dealership does the exact same thing. once the car comes in the shop they log onto our Chrysler Star site and enter the VIN, exact mileage, and owners last name. from there i can see EVERY time the car was brought to a chrylser dealership and for what. i can also see what recalls have been done and what recalls need to be completed.

how long ago did u bring it to the dealership for the inspection. if its within 12 months/12k miles then they can still do the ball joint recall, other wise they CAN NOT submit a warrenty claim to chrysler, it will be rejected then the dealership has to pay for it. like i said we have to enter the vin, owners name, and the exact mileage when the car comes in the shop and we print out that info and submit it with EVERY work order form. believe me Chrysler is SUPER ANAL about warranty claims. i hope i helped u out and sorry for the bad news

thats funny, the dealership said no to me about doing a recall. I called chrysler up, they called the dealer and poof. my recall was done.

It had supposedly been "done before" but the sketchy dealership never actually did it. I found this out when my wheel fell off while ####in driving.

The car had never ever been brought to the dealer that did the work.

<3 chrysler for fixing everything.

what a sketchy dealer. The diagnostic fee is 60 dollars. The dealer is supposed to CHECK if the car needs the work done. If it does need recall work, you don't pay a dime. chrysler will pay for diagnostic fee, all parts and labor. If your car is fine, you just pay the 60$ diagnostic fee.

i had that happen to me -- a call to customer service @ chrysler solved it.
DCX customer service called the dealer and set them straight.

Yep, Ask for the number to customer relations. They should take care of that.

#### CHRYSLER AND THERE RECALL BULLSHIT! Try and get the dealer on your side, if not go to the NHTSA, not Chrysler. I had a lower ball joint fail on me exactly the way the recall says it will. Here is a pic of the LCA and Lower ball joint:

Here is what it did to my car:

I contacted several dealers and they were all assholes about it. I called DaimlerChrysler Corp. and filed a complaint. Here is how they responded, mind you my car had 53,xxx miles on it.

Now I would like to add, right after I fixed the broken LCA (and all the other shit that broke when it failed) I drove the car to a Chrysler dealer and had the LCA recall preformed on the other side, they said it was out of spec and about to fail. They replaced it. But Chrysler will not execpt any responsibility for my first lower ball joint faluire.
#### CHRYSLER, good luck dealing with those #### puke ###gots.

hey 1gcrazy how bout u read my post, i said im a certified chrysler mechanic and i explained step by step how chrysler does everything. and your little idea wouldnt work:talon:

your right i did sound a tad hostile, but my point was from an inside guy for chrysler im just telling u how EVERY chrysler dealership deals with every car that comes in the door. and Chrysler is SUPER ANAL bout warranty claims, so im just trying to help the kid out and not giving him some false info.:talon:

I would have to dissagree with you... you work at one dealer and only know what you have been told by MGMT. I have had the recalls done AFTER other dealers and Chrysler told me they did not have to. Hell I had the LCA done AFTER I got that letter above. It seems to matter what dealer you go to. You can win with any of them if you fight it the right way, but it is a hard fight and sometimes not worth it. If you go to the NHTSA's website and read the recall and the laws around them you would find that Chrysler and the dealer are in the wrong for not bending over and replacing them.

Just a FYI for anyone needing to replace the Lateral Contol Arms on a 2G (the ones that the recall is on)... The part is around 40 bucks from the dealer each side and is super easy to swap.

did the same damage to my car. Wierd they didn't cover it though. My history showed the recall had been "done" before. I told them my wheel just fell off because the lower ball joint let go. They said "have it towed to XXXX dealer, they will check it out. If we deem it the lower balljoint that failed, we will replace everything for free and reimburse you for the toe fee". Did exactly that , it was lower balljoint failure[ obviously] and they fixed everything for free. I didn't have it "in" with any dealer either. Just called the 1-800 chrysler number.

my incident happened in summer of 2005, maybe they are now being sticklers with recalls as of late?

So anyone here have the CV axle break on you when the ball joint failed? That's what just happened to mine and I had it towed to the local Chrysler dealer and they say that the tech says the CV axle didn't fail from the lower ball joint failing. I just don't see how they can say that, unless they think I don't know crap about cars and just say OK I'll give you $321 to change the axle-NO I don't think so. Then the service writer/manager wants to threaten me saying that I'm committing fraud by trying to say the axle broke when the lower BJ failed. Because their tech says that's not what happened. BS.

I don't see how else the thing could have filed, the car was driving on the road when the ball joint failed, now the CV axle is in two pieces. Just glad it happened in my neighborhood and not at 50mph!

Wouldn't it be impossible to be driving a fwd car with broken axle? I know my '81 accord sure did..
When my old car's cv joints went the motor just revved and I didn't go anywhere.
If that is the case with FWD DSM's I'd say you've got a strong case.

Yeah they are trying to tell me that the axle broke first but it's not possible because like you said it wouldn't drive. The ball joint dropped first and luckily it happened just 50 feet from the house in the neighborhood, and it was still driving, it wasn't till we were back to the front of the house the axle broke in front of the house and the car wouldn't move. Then it was towed into the dealer.

But they are trying to argue that the axle broke and that caused the ball joint to break. But the service manager is going to talk to the district manager and we'll see what they say after the Thanksgiving break. But I think I will be contacting the Chrysler corporate consumer affairs office, or the BBB, or the NHTSA.
