Yesterday did the timing belt on our 91 TSI. When I was down there I check the two hoses leading to the heat exchanger. Both were about ready to BLOW! The lower one gets spluged on every time you do a oil change and the upper one got dribbeled on by a weeping power stearing line (it does not take much). The lines had about 70K on them from the last time I changed them and if one fails it dumps the compleat cooling system seeing as it is the low point.

So if you have a 91 or up turbo car check those lines next time you do a oil change (I think you will be SHOCKED) and if you have a 90 or a 90 external oil cooler installed you can disregard.

I've been keeping my eye on these for probly the past month, KNOWING I need to replace them before summer here in AZ.
So I was at the parts store after work one day(of course) and I came out to see my hood steaming like hell!
I live right across the street luckily so I went home and got the other car for more parts and got those hoses replaced. They were in dire need of changing :D

And if you have a radiator with plastic tanks, keep a close eye on them for sudden failure.

The wife was up at Columbia when that happened. Picked up a new one drove up and changed it out.
