It looks a hell of alot better then the nasty ass oil soaked mat that comes from the factory. Sure I could of did what everyone else does and just paint the firewal to match but whats the point of that? Plus it only cost me 30 bucks to try something new. Thank you for the input though.

Is that an overlay of some sort? Looks like some of those peel on kits from the lines in the grooves of the firewall.

Looks good, but for a street car I would imagine it will deteriorate pretty fast.

I think everyone would say it looked better if you made everything else look better. I mean if a car gets brand new paint but the rims suck then the whole car comes down with it... Paint that brake spliter and all the lines black or red and it will look better but i wish you would have made it fill the whole firewall...

What I think: It's not the choice of carbon fiber, the idea or anything else, it's the execution that's lacking. Basically, it looks like you did it quickly without attention to detail. Clean it up and people might not like it for their own cars, but they'll respect it.

If you're not convinced, look again at the first picture and tell me that looks "clean." Does it look like what a shop would sell? Does it look like a cool factory option? I'm getting "no's" on all those, and that's the feedback you're hearing.

I will say the bay is clean! You have a good foundation to work with.

A guy on ebay sells scrap sheets that have imperfections in them. I bought a .6mm sheet that I layed the factory mat over and cut out the holes. IF you guys are referring to the fitment on the drivers side where the brake booster goes, I had it fitting there at first but with the way the firewall curves I had to trim it out so everything would bolt up just right. And as to the rest of the car goes I have the front end off while I was working on cleaning the engne bay up and will post pics of the whole car when im done with my build. I have been working on the bodywork, engine, wiretuck and other little odds and ends since last summer. Thanks for your guys input.

Agreed, its not that it looks bad, It is more of the detail aspect. You should have made an EXACT template with cardboard and did some test fitting before making your final cuts. Another thing to think about is the name "firewall" Typically this not only suppresses some of the sound, but it is also never flammable. (yes i know, oil soaked ones are flammable..but is it REALLY supposed to be oil soaked? no.) Carbon fiber itself may not be flammable, but typically the resins used to turn it into a panel are. (again, on a consumer level, not a formula 1 car)

Take your time on it, and you will have much better results. Creative idea though!

I like the idea. Keep up the good work. I would do another one and fine tune it. Most people wouldnt even try this. So I give you a for going the extra mile to make your car clean from the inside out. Oh and dont use cardboard. It wont flex as easy in the bends. Use plastic or something like that. You could use magnets to hold it in place while you cut it out. Then you get the true size.

I like it but like they said it could use some work I mean put resin over it and it would look awesome. Keep workin on it. Perfection takes time.

Thank you for you input. I will be getting another sheet that does not have any imperfections in it. I just bought this scrap piece to try it out incase I didnt like it. Plus this was my first time working with carbon fiber.
