Hello. I guess I'm another unfortunate of the CEL curse, LOL. Well anyway, I took my car to Autozone and the code they gave me was this P0442 and it meant "EVAP small leak detected" The guy told me it could be the fuel cap (like 80% of the time) or a small leak in the emission hoses. How can I check this myself? or what should I do?

My car is a 2g eagle talon Esi

I am trying hard not to post early like I did last time, but I can't control my excitement right now. The problem came back and threw the P1494 code again which is a "EVAP ventilation switch or mechanical fault". Sounds easy right? Just replace that switch and you are good to go. The problem is that part costs over $300 from the dealership, and it's kind of obscure to purchase used off ebay. I found one through rockauto for $130. Replaced it myself, the same code came back. Replaced a bunch of lines, the code came back. I also got a new code for EGR low air flow (forgot the code number). So I started playing around the EGR and cleaned out the tube that goes from the engine back to the throttle body which had plenty of carbon deposit making airflow tight.

No luck. Both codes came back. I purchased a Idle control valve and decided to clean the throttle body. I pulled it out of the engine and noticed the passage to the EGR tube was completely blocked by carbon deposits. I had to pry a screwdriver through the hole. Used plenty of TB spray, and cleaned that sunofagun good, same with the throttle body, I made it shine. Hooked back everything up and my idle is near perfect now. Reset codes and the EGR code is gone, the p1494 came back. I gave up and took it to a shop, they ran some test and found out some of the vacuum lines were leaking. Replaced some and now I am CEL free, ready to pass inspections!!!! I hooked up a OBD reader and the EGR is still showing as pending, but I passed and haven't had any EGR codes in the last week or so.

I will post again in a week to confirm my car EVAP/EGR system is working great!

Not working. Code came back. After spending $300 at a shop they ended up telling me the ECU had to be replaced (I call bs). My inspection is due and I am not going to pass like this. I decided to sell my car. Hopefully somebody with no inspections will appreciate it, or could use it for parts. Find the ad in the classifieds :)
