Hi, I recently put a greddy hard pipe kit and mated up a turboxs rfl bov on my 98 GST. I've added all the spacers to make the spring stiffer and my car idles fine, but my check engine light comes on. It is mostly on, but about once a week the light will turn off on its own and be fine for about a days worth of driving, then it will turn on again. My question is: How do you think I can get the light to stay off? I've heard something about a GM MAFS? And, does the check engine light being on effect the performance of the car at all? Thanks for your help. -Matt

Hhmm........Im guessing your venting right ? that will throw that code , buy the recirc kit and stay safe......it seems like its only a light now,but slowly screws stuff up. the gm maf and the maft will allow you to vent safely....because it measures the air that is in your piping after the bov instead of before it see ? so with stock mas all the air is meterd and when you vent that lets meterd air out , but the motor still think the air is in the system ( recirculated) and gives enough fuel to meet how much air you brought in....so venting you loose say 5% of that air but the comp doesnt know it and gives you fuel for ALL the air you brought through the mas and also the air you lost by venting....now your getting 100 % fuel and 95% meterd air. with the gmmaf and maft air is meterd after the bov instead of before so now when you vent and let the out it has not been meterd yet and the car doenst give you fuel for the air you lost by venting. see ? good luck man

Ok, a few more questions then. The TurboXS BOV I have was given to me as a B-day present, and it is the one that can't be vented. Would you recomend getting the GM MAF set-up (how much and where?) or woud you recommend getting a new BOV that I can vent? I appreciate the help. -Matt

OK first venting is when you DONT recirculate the air , and just let it out to the atmosphere. like the turbo Xs RFL does. NoN VENTING ( is the good way) is whn you pu that little tube from your BOV to the intake . ( like it came stock )

Now im sure theres no kit to recirc the Xs RFL but it can easily be made , but if you dont want to do that then you can A.) get a new blow off valve B.) Buy the gm maf and gm maft that whole thinkg is like 300 bucks or so depending on the deal you find.

Now if i were in your position i would sell the Turbo Xs RFL for a good bit of money. then go buy a crushed 1st gen blowoff valve for about 40 bucks or so and now you hvae a Blow off valve that just as efficent as most your could buy adn a nice bit of money left over for some other more important mods. and the gm maf and maft just look it up on google or sumthing you will find it good luck. and other questions ?

Hey, sorry about that typo. You knew what I meant though. Im probally going to be looking for a new BOV (The girlfriend should understand). So now to the newest question, which BOV should I get? Im looking for maximum performance, but Im also concerned with the how it will sound and how it will look. Greddy Type S seems pretty popular and will mate up with the Greddy Hard Pipe Kit I have. Give me a few options Thank you -Matt

well like i said 1st gen bov is cheap and works just as good as any greddy ect... most guys prefer these over other bov's . also for looks if you polish this it will look like chrome after 15 minutes if you take steel wool to it. and when you switch this , if your still on your stock intake then cut out that plastic tube that runs down INSIDE your intake not the piece on the out side but where it come inside the intake ill get pics of it for you........ when you take it off you will see what i mean.........doing that will allow the bov to sound really nice...my 1st gen if pretty damn loud... and if you cruck it it will hold like 25 psi's i think.....look it up you will see....anyother questions ?

I have a 91 GST with a turbo XS bov and my check engine light used to come on. So I got a GM MAFT and it works great. Once you put on your MAFT and tune it run your car for a little so it will up date your computer and your check engine light will go off. It did for me. Good luck!
