Cheap Alternator???

My alternator is not doing so hot... I need a new one and I did a search on here to find posts on cheap alternators. I see a lot of people say that they found theirs for sub-$100 price tags and $110-$115, but they aren't saying where they found them. One of them said they paid under $100 for an alternator from Autozone, but when I look on their website it says it is $132 with a core. Thats the cheapest I can find. Anyone know of anywhere cheaper?

Sure, look in your phone book for "alternator and starter repair" Give them a call. When you go there, if it's only the regulator then they can just replace it. Sometimes it's the regulator and sometimes it's the bridge rectifier assembly. You might also ask how much to go completely through it. It's usually quite cheaper than purchasing off the shelf. Plus, the alternator shops use better components than the reman's

That's because they don't have to save ten cents per unit or whatever it may be.

you can buy a brush kit for it if you know how to do the work yourself because the brushes are the first to go and that is what creates the magnetic field to charge the battery.the brushes are basicly magnets(same idea as slot cars).

yea where i live its 90 to have it rebulit ill be doing so in a few days

Buy the autozone/pep boys alternator. They have a lifetime warranty so if it ever takes a shit on you can just take it back for a replacement at no charge.
