charcoal cannister

i need to check my charcal canaster i know its under my battery but i needed to know what to look for to see if it has ben messed with or if its going bad. also what dose the canaster do i couldent find anything on it and i need help thanks.

well im not sure how to check if its been messed with. when i took out my engine, i saw that my canister had 2 big holes on the top and had the yellow foam stuff exposed, so i got a new one, you may wanna check to see if yours has cracks or anything like that on it. the charcoal canister collects fuel vapors from your gas tank when the car is not running
