There's a fix out there somewhere, need to disassemble the switch and
remove something.
Can we swap in another spare switch in its place?
Like the rear defroster switch ?
That's for a 1G. No, you can't readily swap.

It's supposed to have an orange indicator light in it. That big "dash" is supposed to light up.

the fog light that lights up the switch is just a bulb. you would remove it with a small flat head from its plastic mounting along with the power windows and cruise control switch, once you have that out, you may remove the switch from the mounting bracket but placing the small flat head into the groove and push on the botton, the rotate the screwdriver lifting the plastic groove so it may pop out of that side, while holding the button, then do the same to the other side.

once you have it out then on the bottom of it there will be a hole with a black circle thing with a groove for a flat head, rotate it in the opposite direction to loosen it, then use like pliars to remove it and see if its blown.

that is just for the light bulb and should not affect why your fogs arent working.

do you have a test light?

There's quite a bit more to it than that. I'm doing this from memory, so hopefully I don't forget anything.

1) Take off the plastic fog light bumper housing thing to give you more room to work.
2) Unplug the fog light wiring harness.
3) Unscrew the phillips head screw holding the metal fog light housing on. Swear a lot and use lots of PB Blaster because it's probably rusted on, and Mitsu should've used a bolt instead. Pull the entire housing out the front, if you don't completely strip the screw head first.
4) Take the fog light housing to your workbench and unscrew the little phillips screws from the back of the housing.
5) Unplug the bulb from the wiring harness. Unclip the shiny metal clip that holds the bulb in place and replace bulb.
6) Installation is reverse of removal.

Tips:
1. Don't touch the new bulb with your fingers, or it will create hotspots on the bulb surface that may cause a burnout.
2. Replace the Phillips head screw that holds the fog light housing onto the car with a bolt, so next time you can use a socket/ratchet to remove it easier.

I agree with the steps doug said. I just did mine on wednesday, and i did just about everything he said by figuring it out on my own. some people say to remove the whole bumper to change the bulbs, but i believe that is a little overkill.....

if you look closer, it's two bolts and another phillips screw holding the whole assembly onto the car, and the screw for adjustment. If you undo the screw on the bottom right (i think) it will release the assembly.

Ok, so I got the manual to my 99 Eclipse GS out, ready to replace the fog light bulbs with some new Silvania BlueStar bulbs. I unscrewed the black cover in the air dam, and took it off. Next, the diagram shows a screw beneath and behind the leveling screw that should be removed. I tried about 3 different tools, and some WD-40, but I cant get that screw to turn. At all. On either side. There's gotta be an easier way to get that bulb out. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, and I cant see my sig pic. Is that normal?

this might not help but i couldnt get it off i got pissed , and got my dremel , needless to say problem solved

Ok, I have a 95 GSX with a 97+ front end conversion. I have a few questions about the fog lights. The bumper currently has no fog lights in it, but I have bought the covers for them. I'm not entirely sure how I am supposed to install them. I know that the screw goes in the top where the little plate slides in but the only place that I can see on my bumper to attach it to is a slight v shaped notch on top. Is this where I attach it or do I just need to drill my own holes? Secondly what aftermarket fog lights will bolt directly up to the 95 plugs? Or do i just need to find a pair or OEM ones? Thanks in advance.

sorry to bring up an old topic, but....

I'm up to step #3, and my screw is completely stripped, preventing me from removing the fog light housing...

does anyone have any ideas for removing that stripped screw? Its such a tight space to work in!

I had a crazy idea of filling in the stripped head with JB Weld / QwikWeld, and forming a slot with my screwdriver before it dries. Then when it's hardened, I could retry unscrewing it with the new flathead slot I made. Does anyone else think this will work, or should I try something else?
