I did search as best I could. Did not find this subject.
I am new and have read the newbie FAQ and respect all that are here with knowledge and experience.
We just purchased our first DSM. After tremendous research and reading many
posts on this forum. Thank you for letting us lurk.
The mostly stock 96 Eclipse GSX with 127,000 miles passed a California smog check yesterday and runs and idles okay.
An after market BOV is on the car with a horn and we would like to suppress
the noise and have the car be more low key. Something we used to call a sleeper. The return port is covered with a cap.
Because the car idles and seems to run properly it makes me think that
the BOV was installed "correctly". This forum points out in clear terms
that simply installing a blow off valve to atmosphere is a bad thing to do
without allowing for the changes that happen (MAF sensor air/fuel ratio etc..).
So we want to change it to recirculate and I have two immediate options:
1. place a stock BOV and stock BOV return hose onto car.
2. machine or locate a connector to route this BOV to the return port.
If I do this without chaning anything else I expect the car to run leaner
than it does now. Lean causes heat, but less pollutants.
QUESTIONS:
Anybody here ever undone an atmosphere blow off to recirculate ?
What should I do in addition to re-routing the blow off ? (chip changes ?).
The car came with a Blitz BOV, at least that is what the guy said. I will check it.
Please go easy on us. We are here to learn. And we are quick learners.
I hope to make it to the get togethes at In N Out in the Inland Empire.
So please give us some constructive advice to go forward on.
If anybody has the stock BOV and needed hoses please let me know.
