I just changed the lifters on my 91 awd to the revised lifters with the bigger oil passages. That was all I did. Put the valve cover back on and tried starting the car. It doesn't START. wtf! I even started it right before I changed the lifters, it was fine (had to move the car). So I know the car started prior to the install. Now it just cranks over. The weird thing is that the starter sounds very fuken weird now, it whines the whole time. Before when I started the car the starter sounded really strong. chi chi chi chi then boom on. Now it's like chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii and doesn't pop to start.

check your sparkplugs and your spark plug wires... make sure they are all hooked up tight and that the plgs wernt turned in too much .... sometimes overtightening the plugs can brake them.

also if you pulled ur cables all the way off make sure you put them back on in the correct order...

other than that check anything that you unpluged or touched when you were working in it.

If you put the lifters in fully extended (didn't bleed them first), they will be over-extended and hold the valves open enough to prevent compression.

Worst case, the valves can be open enough to smack the pistons and toss the timing belt, but usually all you have to do is wait a few hours and the lifters will bleed down on their own and the motor will start.

Did you fill the lifters with oil and didn't drain them before install?

I was stupid and swapped the plug wires around. Changed them around to the correct order I also waited a few hours and started the car. It runs like a champ again! :D
