I just got this 97 gsx 2 months ago and i havent been able to drive it for the last month because it wont start. Everything was great than i got cel for a cam sensor than the next day it wouldnt start back up and gave me a crank sensor code pending so i just finished changing them both cause i had to wait for the part and it still is not starting. Turn the key you hear the fuel pump starting and i hear what i am guessing is the coil pack up front spark a few times but no crank to the motor.

Now what, before this happened there were no signs of anything going out, starter seemed strong i did change the spark plugs form what they had in their some autolite junk and put the ngk bpr6ekn plugs in there and when i checked those the tips were white and the last couple of threads were covered in black(not oil). I was just really starting to enjoy my new car and now i cant even drive it. I'm not a mechanic so i have no idea were to look next.

The CamAS, was it bad or was the inside of it chewed up?

Check the coil packs for resistance on both the primary and secondary coils.
Are your spark plugs copper, platinum, iridium? (I can't keep track of exact numbers)

The sensor wasnt chewed at all. I am guessing it was bad because it gave me the cel for both of those sensors so went ahead and replaced them. The plugs i got are the stock replacements from NGK there just those dual tip deals, i didnt know about a difference till i seen on here everyone using the single tip ones.

I went out to check all my connections make sure everything is all tight, and when all turn the key i get this weird clicking for a couple seconds like under the intake. With the key in the on position i was messing with the shifter(A/T) and when i put in drive that clicking stays on all the time, it almost sounds like its coming from the transmission. I checked all the connectors around there and couldnt find anything out of the norm. What would cause this electrical ticking from around that area.

the ticking you are hearing is probably the relays closing when you turn the key. this is normal. are you sure the starter solenoid isn't bad. maybe tap the solenoid with a hammer to make sure it isn't the starter. also possibly the neutral safety switch.

maybe also try jumping the starter with a wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive terminal of the starter. this will eliminate problems with the wiring to the starter.
