I've managed to break my transmission pump, or something inside that area while trying to install my transmission. Now I do have a few junk transmissions in my garage so I can pull the pump and gears to replace it but after messing around with one of them I've found that the pump is very hard to pull, and having to pull two of them I hoped that someone might be willing to shed some insight on the best way to pull the pump with basic tools.
I understand that there are two places where bolts can thread into the pump without threading into the case and I have bolts for it but I don't have a slide hammer or anything of the sort. Is the best way just to put a bolt in it, put the transmission on its side and start turning it with a hammer and screwdriver until it pops out?
Never mind, I answered my own problem. Simply placing a bolt in each of the two holes for pulling the pump and then placing the tip of a very long handled screwdriver behind them leveraged against the bellhousing followed by repeated raps with a hammer alternating between bolts had each pump out in about 10 minutes.
