Change in RPM's/Engine tone when engaging clutch

Whenever I start my engine and it's really cold out, the clutch feels stiff and is slow to come back up. When I step on the clutch, the rpm's will slightly raise (maybe 100), and the engine tone will change. These symptoms completely go away after it warms up, but I was just wondering if this was normal for cold operation. :confused:

The nature of a hydraulic clutch; the fluid is thicker when its cold, making it stiff. If you've never changed the brake fluid in the clutch system, do it as that may help slightly. Bleed it and keep adding fluid until clean fluid is coming out of the bleeder.

Your tranny fluid is also thicker when it's cold. When you disengage the clutch, the engine is disconnected from the tranny so there is less load on the engine. Your shifter probably probably feels a little stiffer too? If you change to GM Syncromesh fluid in the tranny, you won't notice this much because it's quite thin.
 
The noise heard could also be a throwout bearing and the raise in idle is normal escpecially when cold. When the engine is warming up it is activating the Fast idle air valve (FIAV) and is raising the idle to warm the coolant to lower the rpms down to the base idle. I do not know if I would switch completely to syncromesh in the trans as it is a thin oil and helps in older worn transmissions in shifting better but offers alot LESS wear protection then synthetic 75/90 gear oil. At the very least do a 50/ 50 mix but I would still recommend synthetic gear oil like amsoil gl-4, BG syncromesh or redline mt-90. There are a ton of brands and a ton of recommendations, I run BG syncroshift 2 but it is a little pricey, but so is a new trans. goodluck
 
No man it is just ####ing cold out... Nothing more nothin less. If it goes away when warm then your fine. Your hydro system still should be fine....
