Just wondering what is normal verticle play in the center support bearings on the driveshaft. I have about .5 to .75" of play when pushing up and down on the driveshaft right at the bearing. I am new to these cars. Do these support bearings actually have a bearing in the or does the shaft just ride in them. The play I have would seem pretty excessive to me but IDK what is normal.

I have a chatter noise on intial decel when in higher gears mainly when there is not as much engine braking. I have read some people having problems with these bearings and the ujoints. The ujoints all seem ok. I noticed I have a LSD 3 bolt rear and the guy I got the car from just changed the fluid. So I changed it again with LSD approved gear oil and the noise is about half as bad now. Are the LSD's known for a some chatter?

Its a '90 awd tsi with 127K on it. Thanks
