420A Center console shifter lights?

Hey i bought a 1998 Eclipse GS a few weeks ago and the other day i went to go drive it at night and i goto put it in reverse (its an automatic) to back out of my parking spot and i look down and was like damn its dark normally on the other cars i drove where it shows P - R - D - 2 -L or however your cars gears may be labeled it lights up down there so you can see what your doing i know i can look at my gauges and see on that diagram just thought id ask if yours lights up or is it just how the cars made. Isn't the indicator in the gauge cluster?

Mine light up next to the shifter like you are saying it should. I don't have a gauge in the cluster to tell me what gear I'm in, although i don't think i would ever look at it if I did. I have gotten so used to the car, I just slap the thing where I need it and go. If you are that concerned about a light, pull out the console and look for the light. And what are you still doing up Defiant, you should be in bed still. Got the day off or something?
