the little light in my dash came on today while i was driving. it was right after it rained and it looks like a little house or like a 5 runner mamnifold or somethin? what is that? check out the pic

These guys have a really funny picture for this, but i don't... someone will post it. This is your coolant light, it's supposed to looks like a radiator.

And it means your coolant overflow bottle needs more coolant or switch repair/replacement if the level is fine. The float switch gets gummed up by the stuff that settles to the bottom over 14 years.

The only Check Engine light is the one that says CHECK ENGINE.

The others are -howevery wryly- called idiot lights.

Get over to eBay and grab-up an Owner's Manual.

i put in about a liter of coolant into the overflow tank. the light went off and car is fine but im just wondering where the coolant is going..?

Overflowing out the overflow hose, quite possibly. Or evaporating. Or you might have a minor coolant leak. Or your bottle might be cracked. Or... there's a lot of things that it could be.


And Defiant, you need to add a picture of the Parthenon to that list of pictures.

My coolant overflow bottle has no plug on the bottom to plug the sensor into
The harness for it is just laying there.

thanks again all u helped me figure that one out quick. just bought my 4th 1g eclipse. and couldnt remember what the light stood for . filled the bottle tapped it a few times to get the crud outta the sensor and poof light goes out.

Can this light AT ALL indicate a blockage in the cooling system -- like a clogged coolant feed line for the turbo?

BTW, what happens to Mitsu turbos with poor or no coolant delivery to them?

Has anyone had a turbo failure due to this, and what were the symptoms?

Blockage? No, leak yes.
Turbos could overheat. To be safe let it idle a little bit after you get done driving.
