i adjusted my tps to .5 ohms when closed and the cel is still on saying open tps.i can not figure this out can someone help i have a 91 eclipse gs non-turbo

no i didt reset the ecu should i do that. its just diconnecting the battery right?
i have 2 tps both do the same thing. any more answers?

yeah you should reset the ecu, reset the battery cable for like 3 minutes or get and obd scanner and remove erase the codes.

i just did it its at .50ohms at the closed position.its still doing the same thing.its a automatic and the transmission is shifting really early.the shifts are eratic does anyone know if it might be a bad tps or connector or something else??

You posted twice now that you set the TPS to .5 ohms so I'll assume it's not a typo. The spec is for 0.5 volts at idle. Because of the variances in total TPS resistance and in the ECU +5 sensor voltage you can't blindly adjust the TPS by resistance. You need to either measure the voltage like the manual says or use a datalogger and adjust to 10%.

i have a chilton manuel no where does it say about voltage can u tell me what it says in the manuel how to adjust it with the voltage thanks.

the shop manual says to adjust between .48 and .52 VOLTS it also says to measure it at the ECU pins 19 and 24 on the big connector. I'm sure your fine doing it at the TPS though.

It's just tricky getting to the connectors at the TPS. The FSM used a special tool that breaks the wire out for measuring. I used to slide a small wire between the weatherproof seal and the insulation until it hit the connectors on pins 2 and 4 before I got a datalogger.

Chilton's sucks.

so while the engine is at idle u should adjust the tps while pluged in to the connector and read what voltage it is after the connector( what pins on the ecu connector do i tap in to read tps voltage?

thanks guys its all fixed.just one quick question on a automatic transmission does the transmission always shift into 4th gear(overdrive)at 55 or does it shift earlier when the pedal is not decreased as much?

I don't have a ATX or NA DSM but on my Stealth and Diamante they both shift into overdrive as soon as the engine can handle the load, unless the engine is cold. On cars upshifts are delayed on moderate to WOT throttle, but around town the cars go into overdrive well before 55 mph. If you pulled the battery terminal to reset the ECU you also reset the ATX ECU and both might take a bit to settle.

Did adjusting the TPS clear your CEL?

yes it did thanks alot.i dont know why on alot of sites it says to adjust the tps with the connector disconnected and set at ohms i was trying to adjust this thing for 2 months with no luck but now its all better thanks to you guys

Simply because it's difficult to access the connectors needed to measure the TPS voltage without the harness shown in the FSM. So people try to come up with ways to set the TPS without the connector attached.
