My 91 awd talon cuts out in the 2800 and up range and idles at 2k after a short trip, cel comes on and, when it is on, all car wants to do is die and the exhaust note also changes. It also over heats. I have changed the spark plugs with bpr6es ngks and wires have been changed. I fully ported my 14b and o2 and am only running 9psi. Other than that it is all stock. I checked the base timing and it is 5 deg before tdc but, when I take the ground off and recheck it it is about 10 deg. Is there any way to find out what the cel means? What is the problem? I think I will try getting the bpr7es ngks and a new fuel filter and rewire the fuel pump. Any other suggestions? Could the cat be clogged? I need this car running cause it is my daily driver. Thanks in advance!

If you have a pocketlogger you can view the codes. Or buy a Haynes manual to see the two pins you need to use in the diagnostic port (In the footwell on the drivers side and usually has a rubber cap on it) and pull the codes. Without the logger I use to use a little led light that you can buy at Radio Shack to see the High and Low pulses that the ECU will put out. It will repeat the codes over and over again so just look for the pattern. :talon:

Hey I diagnosed it to be a few things. The codes are for a tps or idle pos switch and a iat sencor. I checked both with a ohome meter and both were good so, I reset the ecu. No check engine lights! It runs very strong now. I set my boost to 14psi and no problems. It still idles at 2k after you drive a short distance. I was wondering if I blocked off my fiav if that would fix the idle? If it will does anybody know how to do it? I am not exactly shure what it is.
Thanks for your help!

have you checked your idle set screw? they like to back off on their own.

Ya, I set the biss screw and after it warmed up, it idled at 2k I tightened the screw in all the way and it didn't lower the idle. I found a link to blocking off the fiav and I plan on doing that and re-routing the coolant lines. That is most likly the problem.
