The previous owner just hacked off the stock harness instead of buying an adapter. so i get the wiring harness from the junkyard and wire it all up and used a multi meter to make sure its all conducting. i wire an adapter to the cd player wires. it worked previously and the power goes all 12V goes thru the wires now and the ground is good but its not turning on. whats goin on? the fuse on the cd player is good. any ideas other then a new cd player. also any idea what color the antenna remote wire is?

ya but i checked many many times. i didnt even think there was a ground wire in the harness, you just have to ground it yourself (maybe thats my problem), anyone else have an idea about the ground wire?

First temporarily connect the player directly to the battery to make sure it turns on ok.

Then make sure you have chosen a "supply" +12V wire connected thru the ignition switch (the original uses a blue wire) and not a "control" wire which will also read +12V until the device it's connected to is turned on (then it will go to 0V). You can temporarily connect a 12V bulb to your wire choice to test if it's a supply +12V wire. If it isn't the bulb will be half bright and have a lot less than 12V on it (probably like 3 to 8V).

The original also connects a red wire (which is hot all the time) to the units memory power input which usually is also needed for it to work (this may be your problem).

The original uses a green w/white stripe wire (connects to taillight relay) for the units light.

Lastly the original uses chassis for ground so your ground (whether it is chassis or a wire) must be connected to the car body or frame.

its an aftermarket cd player. but according to that link the power antenna is not in the harness, so it is on its own right? i know the adapter i got has it in the harness. isnt universal wire coding: Red- ACC powerm Yellow - 12V constant? but DSM is Blue - ACC Red - 12V. maybe other discrepencies include the power antenna wire? i will try those troubleshooting steps today after work. thanks :thumb:

I'm looking in the '99 Mitsu Eclipse Service Manual circuit diagrams. It shows 2 blue wires. One is a 14 AWG flexable (+12V ignition thru 10A fuse) that goes to the radio/tape player pin 10 (same as in Defiant's link). The other is a 22 AWG which comes from the same place the first blue wire does except it goes to the motor antenna assembly pin 5 (power antenna turn on +12V supply). The power antenna is controlled by a 22 AWG white/black wire from the motor antenna assembly pin 4 to the radio/tape player pin 3.

The other wires match the link except the 20 AWG red/black (+12V battery), which also goes to the motor antenna assembly pin 1, changes into a 20 AWG red before going to the radio/tape player pin 11.

BTW: The 1998-1999 link's pins A-C are Mitsu's 1-3, H-J are 4-6, and D-N are 7-14. PM me with your email address (and whether your car originally had the amplifier or not) if you need the diagram.

ok, kinda what i was thinking but went back and changed it because i wasnt sure. thanks! hopefully today i will have time to figure this crap out.

check your fuses and you can smell the back of the cd player where the vent is and if it smells burnt then get a new one
