Catch can install question

I have my catch can installed with one hose running from the port on the center of the valve cover, and the other hose connected to the pcv valve which connects to the IM.

I've had it installed for a couple weeks and noticed not even a drop of oil was collected, I checked the hoses, all dry. I figured it's because I have a vented catch can, so I just pulled off the filter and capped it off. Is it fine to run it like this?


(This is on a non turbo 420a engine.)

Yes you can run it like this, however I have never had an issue with oil coming out the breather ports during normal driving. When I race I get a good bit of oil coming out of the port on the driver side of the VC on hard right turns when Im on the throttle. Since you are still NA this line is probably connected to your intake still, you may be getting some oil out of this line and never even notice if the intake sucks it up.

Having no oil in the catch can isint a bad thing so dont worry if you dont catch anything.

Since your car is N/T it is actually better to run like that, there will always be a vacuum at the intake manifold and therefore will always be extracting crankcase gasses. When you had your can vented it was likely just sucking in air from the filter and not from the hose at the valve cover.

Actually I do have a breather on the driver side port, I haven't seen any oil come out of it yet.

where did you mount your can at? I have a 2g N/T....was lookin in to putting one on....

I mounted my catch can on the firewall underneath where the cruise control box would be. Fits perfectly and isn't to hard to take out. I also used fuel line since it can resist more heat.

whats the farthest you would run the hoses for one....I still have cruse control so I was thinkin about mounting it up in the passenger side front around where the evap canister would be for the a/c...would that be too far away from the VC and intake?

I would say it's not ideal to put it there. I have an aftermarket intake manifold so my hook ups are on the back side. You can put it where the stock air box is or next to the break booster too.
