i recently changed my valve cover gasket, but there is still oil coming from the CAS..is there a gasket on there also? i have been searching but didnt come across anything about oil leaks around there

What steve is trying to say is. We know your cas IS leaking. There are two places your CAS can leak from.

1. The CAS assembly should have a big black o-ring on the alum. part that mates to the head. It is probably pinched or dried up and leaking. This is most likely your prob.

2. The CAS can be leaking internally. Oil could be getting past the bearing seal for the timing components inside the CAS itself. If this is leaking replace your CAS.

My 97 CAS calls for RTV around the backside where the housing meets the head. This is the factory procedure.

You are correct!

This is the factory procedure for a 1997 CAS.

Also, a 97 CAS has NO internal moving parts. It is a magnetic pick-up with the a cam mounted armature. It has no internal bearings or seals to leak.

Mits3gts....are you running a 1997 CAS on your 90 Gst???

.

well the head was replaced with a brand new one 20k miles ago.and it seems like it just the leaking where it meets the head, and no leaks from the CAS itself, thats nice and dry, just underneath that everything is soak with oil..so i can just remove it and replace the o-ring? i could really use an exploded view of the whole assembly,i guess its time to go get a repair manual..

alright, thanks alot.but can i just take it off and put it back on without having to set the timing again? just as long as the marks are lined up i should be all set right?

use white out or something to mark exactly where the cas was so you put it back in the same spot.
