carrier bearing fix did nothing

I followed the instructions in the link provided right to the letter. After a 40 hour drying period (well over the recommened 24) there is NO change in the accleration thump. Driving home from work today I could fell driveshaft vibration. When I got home I reached under the car and wiggled the driveshaft and heard a squishy noise. All the inner silicone had squeezed out and the driveshaft had all the play it did before. WHY after 40 hours would this stuff not be dry? I says it should be used between the temps of -35 to 130* which is a rediculous spread, granted it isn't very warm right now, but 40 degrees is well within that range and it sat in my warm garage the whole time.

Right now I'm going out to buy 100% poly stuff that will dry like it should and dry solid, not the consitancy of hair gel. Its the same stuff I used on my motor mounts and worked excellent. Is it ok to use stuff that dries solid on the driveshaft or will I be vibrating like crazy?

Did you use silicone to fill the bearings with? If so, that stuff tends not to dry verywell when it isn't exposed to air. Thin layers dry find because they have more surface area than thickness. Once you squeeze the silicone into the bearing housing, all of a sudden, it is really thick and very little surface area exposed to air.

I have used urethane caulking from home depot that dries quickly and solid. I had my drive shaft out for 48hrs before I reinstalled it. Mine has been done since 03' and I haven't had the first problem with them.

Sounds good, that's exactly what I plan on doing. Oh the joy of getting that crap out....

Ok well before I got a chance to redo them, the silicone did in fact dry. The driveshaft now has very little play and its stiff enough that I feel vibration inside the car. However, my thump problem was not fixed. Myself and 2 technicians are now completely stumped. The motor is competely solid, the driveshaft is solid, the u joints have zero play, the driveshaft has only millimeters of play, the passenger side rear cv joints have zero play, and the driver's side rear cv joints only have millimeters. I guess that only leaves the transfer case. Any ideas or anything I'm over looking? Someone suggested rear shock tower mounts might be bad, but one of the technicians said that would be audible when we where shifting/reving with the car in the air. Is this a common problem? I've never seen anything on this board about it...
