Ok i know i should use the search a lil bit more on my problem but i dont have the time. I am really sorry if this is a easy problem to fix but im new. OK so today i did my first seafoam, everything went fine. the car turned on after it and every thing. i doubt that has anything to do with it but i just had to mention that. Ok well my car has idle surge and i was reading that one of the things that can cause this are the biss screw o-ring or whatever so i took out the biss and it all looked good, so i put it back, not sure the exact tightness it was but i put it back to what i thought it was. Right after i put that back i disconnected the isc connector to see if one of the coils were bad, but it all looked good so i put it back how it was. I tried to start the car and nothing, it all turned and seem like it was about to start but it didnt. WTF!!! so replaced the spark plugs because i had some laying around for my car, that didn't help at all. put the old ones back, nothing. disconnected the battery for a lil bit put it back, still nothing. The car seems like its about to start but nothing, just keeps turning. i really have no idea what this could be. Oh and i just bought my car on Thursday and havent had much of a chance to drive it, so this sucks really bad. if any one can help, it will be greatly appreciated.

- as i looked through the search a lil bit i read something about ticking in the front of your TB or something like that. But i think i experienced it, it kinda sounded like a dead battery clicking trying to start. the keys were in the ignition turned all the way before turning on the car. idk if that has anything to do with it???

PLEASE I WANNA DRIVE MY NEW CAR:cry:

I would say change the timing belt and recenter to marks on the gears. Because a few weeks ago my 91 toyota pickup was doing the same thing. It would turn over, seem like it fires once then just go back to turning over. Took it to the shop the timing belt had jump and needs to be fixed. I fixed the timing belt and bam the truck ran. So thats my .02 cents. I would change the belt.

i just changed the timing belt on mine. Its not the timing belt or it being out of time. Its in time. I Would know if it jumped time, plus i that was one of the first things i checked. At this point i am almost positive that its the crank sensor i will be finding out for sure sunday.

Its a sensor. Most likely the ISC or CAM or Crank Sensors. The sensor is giving false readings cause the ECU to either shut off spark or fuel or both because its not reading what the ECU thinks it should be doing.

Check the ISC and Crank Sensors. The issue is most likely in the connectors you fiddled with.

This is how my crank sensor looks like. I am not saying yours will look like this, just a thought.

all right so you guys are saying its most likely the sensors, but what should i be looking for? i mean yeah i disconnected the isc connector, but put it right back, i didn't mess with anything.

im most likely going to recent the timing belt pulleys this weekend because they aren't set up how they should be.

Make sure you know you parts. Don't get confused between Crankshaft Pulley and Camshaft Sprocket.

You have mention the Pulleys has marking on each side. I am assuming you are referring to the Camshaft Sprocket. If so that is normal. It will not line up because your can is not on TDC. Go to the link below. Becareful, messing with the timing will cost you a new engine if you don't know or understand. :nono:

Go look at vfaq and read it, there are alot of good information's on how to do.

No i havent messed with the pulleys, its just when i looked at them, the marks didnt center up, i know a dsm and a bobcat aren't the same thing but my dads bobcat started one day, then didnt want to start the next. Found out it had to do something with the timing belt and it jump or something, he changed the timing belt and then recenterd the pulleys so the marks line up, and it started. But on my car the timing belt is new but the marks dont line up. Its kinda like this

Keep reading the vfaq. Again your cam sprocket markings is not going to be line up everytime you shutoff your engine.

To check the timing, you have to bring the No. 1 piston to the Top-Dead-Center (TDC) position of the compression stroke. Once you the No. 1 piston is at TDC, all markings (cam sprockets, crankshaft sprocket, oil pump sprocket, and counterbalance shaft sprocket) should line up to the timing marking. If they are still not lining up that mean your timing belt jump. Keep reading. I hope this help.

ok so my dad believes that the timing belt jumped, so we are gonna work on that and i will get back to you guys asap.

ok so the marks on teh sporkets arnt going to line up when teh piston isnt TDC. Ok so the only thing i can think of is the sensors, but i dont exactly know where the CAM and CAS sensors are, would someone like to point them out to me?

rob,

You have had no luck over 6 days with the car trying to start it. I would really reccomend having the car towed to a local mechanic for them to properly troubleshoot your problems.

I showed you the location of the cam angle sensor in this post: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/151370614-post13.html

The crank angle sensor is located underneath the lower timing belt cover and requires several things removed to inspect or repair/replace. I would reccomend that you have a professional help you in this case.

This is not meant as an insult, it only means that you need more learning time before taking on a task of replacing a crank angle sensor or a timing belt.

Here was a decent looking mechanic in your area that should be able to help you:

yeah i want to take it to a mechanic, but my dad is the type of guy that doesnt want to pay for stuff he can do it himself. Also about griffin auto, they told my brother that they can look at his car for $75, not even do anything to it, not even guarenteeing anything, but just to look at it. They do good work i hear but i do not want to pay $75 from them just to take a look. Im going to kepp lookin around the car, and then i will take it to a mechanic on monday or tueday if i have no luck. thanks all!

Ok so as my dad was looking through the whole timing belt area and everything blah blah blah, well he found this, i looked around and could explain it my self, it looks like there is supposed to be a belt there

<a href="http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q78/rob1621/?action=view&current=gsx1-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q78/rob1621/gsx1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

excuse the bad writing hehe

Well, the pulley and gear that you are pointing to in your picture is for the balance shaft belt. There should be a belt there, but sometimes people do a balance shaft elimination kit on the oil pump side only, and leave the front balance shaft in position. Pulling the belt off the balance shaft assembly will not cause the engine to not work; it is mainly for harmonics because this is an interference motor design.

Since you have the timing belt cover off now, you should see if your timing marks all line up when the crank pulley is rotated CLOCKWISE ONLY until the timing marks line up on the crank pulley sprocket, the oil pump sprocket, and the cam gears (intake cam mark at 9'o'clock and the exhaust cam mark at 3'o'clock).

For more information, please thoroughly read Timing Belt VFAQ .

MY CAR STARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ROFLROFLROFL
:rocks:

Anyway, we didn't find the actual source of the problem, all we did was take apart the whole timing belt assembly or whatever, and lined up the marks, put the belts back on, and it started! But one thing we did do was put on the balance belt because it was missing. But it did not vibrate really so i think it was ok with the belt off.

!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have another problem now though, the car starts and runs...havent had a chance to drive it due to snow, but when the car is running, it now makes a ticking sound. Its not lifter tick or valves sticking, but it sounds like its coming from the crank shaft sprocket area. Idk if this could be because we put the belt on there but it sounds like maybe a loose belt but im not sure. Can anyone help me on this one?

actually, i still have the problem with teh clicking, but my car not starting thread can be RESOLVED

THANKS EVERYONE

Congratulation on getting your car to start back up.

Make sure your tensioner pulley is proper tension. It require you to have a special tools or an eqivalent. And also your balance belt pulley need to be proper tension. Also make sure the timing cover is screw down properly. I have the same problem, this is how I fix mine. Keep in mind this is only a suggestion.

just want to make sure that your dad tensioned the timing belt properly. It is very different than a bobcat and has to be properly tensioned. the first t-belt i did it wasn't tensioned proper but i didn't think it would matter hugely if it wasn't to tight and not to loose. WRONG it wrecked shit. I had clicking right around the crank pulley which is why im writing this. I thought it was the harmonic balancer but it was the oil pump and trust me that is not a fun thing to replace. mak sure your belt is tensioned properly.
