okay guys ive read and read and searched even more. still not finding the answeres i wanted. im on my third fuel pump in this car, its a 90' eagle talon tsi, first got the car it ran and drove for about 2 days then the pump went out, so i bought a pump from a guy and that worked for about a week, then my car died, towed it home and took the pump out, it looked to me like it blew out of the tube for the sending unit, were the o-ring and plastic shims fit into place and the nozzle of the pump inserts in. well i redid that and made sure it was mounted good and wouldnt leak. started it up and it ran for 5 minutes revved it and held it at 4 grand just to see if it would work. and it did. so the next day i drive it up the street and turn out onto the road and it dies. once again. i pull the pump and put my walbro 255 in i just got and made sure everything was VERY secure. well that didnt work this time. the pump doesnt sound like its priming when i turn the key to the on position. every once in a while it will catch once when i turn the car over, like give one sputter. then wont do it for a while. i changed the fuel filter and still nothing. so im leaning towards the mpi relay and fuel pump relay. i checked all my fuses with an ohmmeter and they are all good. my battery is totally dead so i have an old one from my old honda civic in there right now that needs to be jumped after tryin to start the car for 5 minutes. i just need to get this thing to my house and out of my girlfriends garage. anyone got any input? i dont think it would be the cas being off or something i think its a pump issue with the electrical system. just wondering if anyone else would think that as well. where can i get an mpi relay and fuel pump relay and how much are they usually? i cant find them anywhere.

Unless my car is special, the fuel pump doesn't start till you crank it. It did confuse me after I installed a Walbro 255 expecting to hear it whine, but it fired up great when I turned the key :)
Is your fuel pump rewired? If not I think the MPI is the only relay that is in play with the fuel system, someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.
As for the sputtery start, I would try it with your throttle opened A TINY BIT to make sure its not just your BISS.

the last pump i had in there primed before start up, turn the key to the on position and i could hear a relay click then click back off after 3 seconds. now it doesnt do that. and didnt do that before with the first pump in it. its not rewired and doesnt need to be unless i need more fuel. the pump should work fine just by dropping in. besides running rich that is. but it would still start. it doesnt change anything with the throttle open a tiny bit. im gonna try and shoot some starter fluid through the intake and see if that starts. its gotta go through the turbo and all but eventually it should start up on starter fluid if it really is a fuel issue. how much is an mpi relay and were can i get one?

If you are really stuck for an MPI and are positive its the issue I could dig the one out of my parts car for you. I am in eastern Canada, but if you line up and pay for the shipping you can have it for nothing. PM me if your interested.

Do you have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator by chance? Make sure you're running 37psi and not 42psi. The other thing to check is the fuel pressure solenoid on the firewall, it gives you a minor boost in pressure for startup. Not quite a choke, but similar in principal. This is one of those things a lot of people disconnect along with the boost solenoid without realizing the effects until later.

i havent had the car for very long and dont know what the previous owner did but no it has a stock fuel pressure regulator. but this all happened before the walbro went in. ill check what you said were is it on the firewall? whats it look like? and how come before i heard the pump prime and the relay click when they key was turned to the ON position then click again after 3 seconds. the car started then. its not doing that now and not starting

There should be a bank of three solenoid on the driver's side firewall next to your brake/clutch res. They're on a metal rail and the one you're looking for should have a vacuum line attached to it.

you can usually tell if a fuse is bad by looking at it (the metal strip is broken). you could also hook up a simple circuit using a AA battery and a multimeter. Place the fuse between the battery on the positive wire and the multimeter's positive lead and see if you can still read the voltage.
